* Improving inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and asthma

* Lowering blood pressure and triglycerides

*Omega 3 also help to prevent blood clots

* Increasing HDL (good) cholesterol

* Reducing depression, as well as the symptoms of bipolar disorder and Alzheimer's disease

Foods that naturally contain omega-3s include fish (salmon, tuna, white fish), flaxseed, walnuts, pinto beans, and broccoli, as well as canola, soybean, and flaxseed oils.

You can also find eggs, cereal, waffles, milk, margarine spreads, and even orange juice fortified with omega-3s.

One thing to be careful of, as Zir has mentioned in the past, and i recently read alot of research and opinions of medical professionals, is that you try and shoot for about a 1:1 or 4:1 ratio of Omega 6: Omega 3 fatty acids. Most western diets these days are over abundant in Omega 6, and this can be to the point where the ratio is 40:1 in many cases.

This leads to numerous issues in our bodies and our minds. So, try and get in alot of Omega 3 as more then likely you arent getting enough anyways.

Also, from what i remember, Soybean oil is actually high in Omega 6 (not that it doesnt HAVE Omega-3, but the ratio isnt that good), as do alot of oils (besides flax). So, be wary of that.

Frosty is right.

In fact, not everyone's bodies are efficient at converting the omega-3 Alpha linoleic acid into what the body needs, EPA and DHA. The best sources of these end product omega-3's are fish products, especially cold water.

Soybean and canola are horrible sources, since the amount of omega-6 is so high.

From what i know, alot of products advertise they are DHA sources. Any difference? Can the body convert an overabundance of DHA into EPA? Also, what are some good sources besides fish for DHA and EPA.

Very interesting that some people arent efficient at converting ALA.

I'm not sure if EPA and DHA can be interconverted by the body.

As far as I know, fish is the only source of EPA and DHA. Game meat is high in omega-3 fatty acids, whether they are EPA and DHA or just ALA, I am not sure.

Well, i guess what i meant to ask was what are some good sources of EPA and/OR DHA?

The flax see oil pills (GNC brand) i have have this breakdown per capsule:

ALA: 550 mg
Omega-6 LA: 144 mg
Omega-9 OA: 165 mg (Omega-9 is something abundant in most diets, thus it is not advertised much nor is it something to go after really)

My fish oil per capsule:

EPA: 180mg
DHA: 120 mg

Considering the fish oil has 1,000 mgs of fat, i wonder what the rest is made up of f it isnt Omega-3 sources. I see it has about 0.5 grams of saturated fat.

Also, the shelled walnuts i have on hand have 2.5 grams of Omega-3 per serving (1/4 cup). However, that serving also come out to 200 calories, with 180 from fat.

Also, what is game meat? Quail and turkey? Im having trouble thinking of anything else considered game meat that is served at restaurants or groceries.
