Hi

I have Celiac Disease and therefore I am on a strict diet, I was wondering if there is anybody else out there who does weight training and on a gluten free diet?

If so, could you give me some advice on the nutrition part when you are training, as I know that a lot of gluten free foods don't contain the same as normal food and I am concerned that the diet won't give me the same benefits that I need when training.

Any help would be much appriecated..

Thanks Wendy

I think protein is the most essential part of a diet. Having this you must have already altered your diet. Cutting out gluten isnt that hard when you really have to. Its the absorbtion of nutrients that I think varys with each case. I know 2 people with celiac disease and they both have different complaints. The main this ive hear is they are tired, but both lead very active lives. They are not close freinds so I dont discuses or see these people often enough to know any inside hints. They both are long disntace runners. We had a guy on here just a few days ago asking a smiler question as he has lots of family with it. I think only a Dr can tell you what extra supplements you need to take and what to take with them so the are absobed better. One girl only needs to take extra iron and not eat any wheat products. Im not sure about the other one. Is there a way to tell how much of the nutrients your actually absorbing? Is this new for you? If you are a bodybuilder then I would eat the recommend diet, just omitting the wheat and oats (if oats bother you). Lots of guys know great info on nutrition here but this is in th wrong section. Ill get someone to move it for you and you should get some better responces. Youll prob have to post what your eating now and the nutrient values so they can help you better.

Thank you for your reply, and for moving me to the correct forum, much appreciated, as you have said as long as I am eating enough protein than I can't go far wrong!

I have been a celiac for nearly 8yrs now, lifestyle as change according to diet, must say don't miss much from what I used to have, but have always read all labels etc.

My general ratio per day CAL: 1,221 Carbs: 128 Fat:14 Protein: 114

Meal 1: Protein Shake / or 1 x G/F Low GI Bread + 3 egg whites
Meal 2: Protein Shake
Meal 3: 1 x G/F Low GI Bread + 3 egg whites / or protein shake
Meal 4: Chicken & rice or Veg / or sweet pot + cottage cheese
Meal 5: Fish & veg

My main aim is build more muscle mass and as adviced by Kaboom I need to uptake my Calories etc to assist this, I was just concerned I am taking in the right foods being on a gluten free diet, and also having more variety. Oats unfortunately do upset me, I am waiting for in-laws to send over some G / F oats from England! so I can add to my diet.

regards Wendy
