from time to time I get the surprise call that I have to go to work in 10 minutes and don't have time to prepare my meals. So in that case i know they have simple sugars and high in sodium but is it ok for those cases or are there better options?

is just for those ocasions is not a diet base is a fast response to the situation. oh and i'm talking about boost, ensure not red bull etc.

I'd say try getting something like Endorush for those situations. It's a great workout drink and will give you that energy you need without all the shitty stuff that they put in energy drinks

They are fine... of course there are better options though. I am a fan of oats and egg white protein for a MRP in tight situations, cheap and affective.

I believe he was looking for more of a MRP type drink.

ahh gotcha.

I figured since it was like pre-workout that it'd be kind of the lesser of two evils.

what're ur thoughts on that?

Probably would be... i've had endorush a few times now, the first time i took it i felt like i was on crack because i didnt read that there was 4 servings per bottle. But i've tried it a few times since then at the appropriate amount and have felt fine and it did its job pretty well (focus/energy). They can be a bit pricey though. I still like coffee and cocoa powder Pre WO.

nice. I used to drink coffee during my workout. It was definitely a good pick me up.

never tried with with cocoa powder though.

Never have it with milk though. I'm strongly against milk anywhere near a workout for fear of it souring in the stomach

souring in the stomach? Huh? Your digestive system doesnt just shut off when you work out to my knowledge.

Also, i have milk quite often near my workouts. Never had a problem with it before.

Also, these drinks arent called energy drinks. They are usually referred to as Meal Replacements or RTDs (Ready to drink).

A good option is EAS's myoplex or lebrada's lean body. Also, you can get MRPs which are Meal Replacement Packets which basically mean you need a little mixer and some water and you can grab a packet and go. Labrada and EAS both make very affordable ones that are much better than Slim-Fast or Ensures, and i bet are alot cheaper.

I'm talking the fact that your body temperature tends to rise and that might cause milk to sour in the stomach.

sort of like on a REALLY hot day

I have the Lean Body RTD, and it doesnt taste bad and is very low in carbs. Im not sure if it has these exactly proportions, but i know Labrada makes some awesome low-carb shakes. I always feel that carbs arent that necessary in a RTD because i can get great carbs from a baggy of Cheerios if i need it. Id much rather add my own carbs.
