Hello people. I am Darren from Australia i started training for weight gain about 6-7 months ago and have put on about 18kgs of mass. i went from about 82 to 100kg. during that time i did very little cardio only for warm ups before i trained. I am 6'6 tall and currently 95kg. I am now back into my football season but i am finding it difficult to maintain my size and strength. I am doing very little differnet to what i was doing but now with a fair bit more cardio. I do notice becoming more defined..but at the same time i still want to maintain my size and strenght and maybe even slow gain some lean muscle over the season. I am taking in approx 3-400carbs per day with the most being in my first meal of the day and post workout along with 100-150g of protein in a similar way with the rest being spread throughout other meals. I Train for football 3 days per week for about 90mins. and train with heavy weights for 3 days for about 60mins with 1 rest day. Does anyone have any ideas of what i can do or what i am not doing that will allow me to at least maintain or even gain lean muscle during my sporting season. I dont seem to have lost much strenght but i look to have lost a little mass.
Help would be appreciated...thanks guys!

Up your protein to 2.2 grams per a KG. Basically, eat more. If you eat enough to maintain size you won't lose mass.

Also eat for your body type ectomorphs need to eat as much as possible where as a pure endomorph can only limit his carb intake and basically take in a greater number of fresh vegetables such as broccoli and green beans and my favorite is asparagus since it is a natural diuretic as well.

how would i know what body type i am. All i know is that for me it is god damn hard to gain solid muscle mass. I am about 198cm and about 95kg atm, and i am eating like a race horse lots of chicken and fruit and veges and oats and rice and lots of everything about 6 meals per/day. I train heavy, although i can only manage about 3 days per week with my football training and rest taking up the rest of the week. the only thing i can think of is to up my calorie intake. But i am trying to grow lean muscle not mass. I want to keep my size and strenght throughout the season and add lean muscle. Because i do alot of cardio with my sport it is just playing havoc with my usual ruitine of eat train sleep eat train sleep. so i am dropping weight mostly body fat and fluids i think, but i really dont want to lose the muscle and strenght ive work so hard for.

Ahh i know exactly what you mean. I played ball too and from what you are telling me it sounds like your ectomorph. But you could be a mix i would have to see pictures but. Looking to keep your size during a season is hard. If you are talking about american football it is very hard because your tearing your body down every time you practice you must eat much more especially in the carb department and protein. A good thing is throughtout the day eat pb and j sandwhich or tuna or roast beef all depends what you like.

no i dont play nfl, im in australia, i play rugby league wich i guess is just as tough. yes i tend to agree with you, i think i need to up the calories and protein. Maybe even a little extra sugars to keep my energy levels up because i train so much i worked out last night that if i combine all my weights and footy training time together i am busting it for about 12-13hours a week. Man that sounds like alot just typing it down here. im not all that worried that i lose a little size, i expected it when i went into training, but i would like to keep most of my strenght and get ripped from all the cradio..which is my new goal now. I know now that it is one or the other for me, i cant do both. for me to mass up i need to do nothing but eat do weights and sleep. But playing sport and trying to mass up will just send me insane trying. But it will not stop me from hitting the gym, the pump alone is enough to keep me going back. Cheers for you advice guys. ill keep you posted.

bump um your carbs because your going to be tearing down your body protein and carbs will help rebuild what you have and keep your strength.
