basically says the tredmill puts you in a state of false of hope because it isnt as challenging as you think the numbers are false as is all the cardio machines and he suggests you do 20-25 minutes of HIIT with a 5 min constant level warmup then on the bike or elliptical you break your intervals into 30:30, 30:60, 60:60 or 60:90.

As long as you get your heart rate to the appropriate levels, i dont think it matters much. I actually find my heart rate gets higher on a treadmill than it does outside because i can only run full blast for a short period but on a treadmill im running a bit longer.

And doing HIIT on an elliptical is pretty darn difficult. There are so many different variations and brands. And not all of them allow you to easily push yourself without feeling like you are going to break the machine. And a bike doesnt provide near the core workout that a treadmill or running outside will.

^totally i find i can run way harder in the gym. just counter balance it with going to a beach and running up and down logs or jumping from rock to rock and balancing. beach running is the best.

I still dont understand why you relate the impact with mass.

Yes, elliptical and bikes are better for your knees. That much has been agreed upon.

impact does have a lot to do with mass if you're running, but with bike and elliptical it doesn't matter at all

Any literature on this? Or links?

If it had alot to do with mass, i dont understand how world class sprinters have enormous legs. Or why a natural body builder like Layne would suggest HIIT for a cut.

If you're doing HIIT stick with bikes, treadmills, or just running outside.
I can do HIIT on a bike? huh, I'll look into that.

I do stairclimber because I can get a good sweat and it says how many calories I burn, I like to see results. When spring comes out I'll be doing HIIT outside like at evening, that's when I like it best.

dude the only proper way of knowing how many calories you burn is by wearing a heart monitor. the read out on the machine is such crap. I used to believe the numbers and was happy but then i invested in a heart monitor and was shocked at how the numbers were way off
