Hello all,

I'm just coming off a decently successful bulk now where I gained a good amount of mass and strength, but since I'm endomorphic I put on some fat too. I'm starting my cut on Monday.

I am following Layne's sticky on nutrition for cutting, but I have some other questions regarding it.

He mentions drinking a shake during workout comprised of whey and dextrose, but I normally drink my shakes post workout, so do you think if I drink my shake immediately after my workout that it will still be effective?

Also, I normally eat whole eggs in the morning with toast, which I have become very accustom too. I understand that this will not be a good idea during a cut because of high insulin levels correct? Or do insulin levels only increase when high GI carbs are ingested?

Some insight would be great guys, and I'm sure I'll have more questions as the days go by

you can switch the toast to whole wheat, but if your eating whole eggs with the toast then the fat in the yolk will offset the actual insulin peak of the bread.

You can still drink it post workout and it would be alright.

As long as you get the carbs for the insulin spike and get ur quick digesting protein post-workout you'll be fine. Gotta get that protein synthesis up and combat that lowered test during the workout.

so sorry to clarify, I can still eat whole eggs or is that a bad idea? After calculations according to layne i'll be eating only about 20g of carbs upon waking...

boys i start tomorrow, for breakfast should i have oatmeal and protein shake? I would rather eat all whole food but i cant figure out what to have

oatmeal and a shake is almost the perfect breakfast.No instant oats though.Or like zack said some eggwhites would be ok.The way i do is 1 yolk per 6 whites just to add a little flavor.

they're not bad, just not as nutritious as normal oats and they sometimes tend to have high fructose corn syrup

Could you clarify this right here... because from my understanding and reading, hormone levels are actually increased during weight training... the only hormone you would really want to reduce is cortisol.

QuackAttack, skip the bread and go for the oats like the others said. Depending on what/when your next meal would be you might want to consider the egg whites instead of the shake, if you want use a 4:1 ratio of whites to whole eggs. Avoid combining simple carbs with fats whenever possible because insulin promotes fat storage, and decreases the use of it for energy.

As for the shake are you drinking it PWO out of habit if so, just try drinking like half of it during your workout and finish it PWO, but if your not drinking it because you get sick or stomach problems, try ~20gs of Leucine with Crystal lite during your workout and keep your normal shake PWO.
