I was at the hospital just now to get a ring removed from a swollen finger, my blood pressure tested 139/72. Does anyone have any information about a similar number combination for blood pressure and what it suggests?

Your top number(systolic) is high but not yet considered to be hypertension (high blood preasure) you are in a range though that is considered prehypertention.... normal is 120/80... considered hypertension is 140/90... 121-139 is considered prehypertensive for the systolic number, and 81-89 is prehypertensive for the dystolic number(bottom number). You basically need to take precautions with things that would raise your BP.... might want to do some reading on preventing it... theres a ton of info out there.

The doctor said that since my diastolic was 72 that it was probably me being nervous for having to be at the hospital, but i'm going to look into it.

Yeah if you know someone who can take it regularly that would be the best way to know for sure. I went to the ER the other week and mine was 150/92 and normally mine is 125/75... but i havent checked it in a while... and there were other variables like i took some cold medicine and stuff, like 10 minutes after they took it as 150/92 the doctor came in and took it and it was allready 139/78

I work at a hospital, I just had mine taken after I transfrered a patient and I came in at 137/78. Alittle high but normal with young people. I also clocked my heart's BPM and it was 73 the first time, and 75 the second. 60-100 is normal

i work at a hospital too... i still say when it comes to health its better to walk on the safe side and approach these things cautiously. I am fortunate enough to be able to take my BP anytime between the ER and my fiance being a nurse. I think if you have someone who can take it for you just take it twice a week for a few weeks and judge from that... if it runs in your family you should watch it anyways... take it at regular intervals like once or twice a month. Sorry to disagree with everyone it is just high BP can cause a lot of problems later and why not just be cautious now rather then sweat it later. Prevention is the best cure... period.

My gf is a nurse as well, she's always taking my damned BP, usually falls a fraction over 120/80, so normal

My gf dresses up like a nurse... Does that account for having high blood pressure?
