my post workout shake includes 2 scoops of van protein, milk, and herseys syrup. i was wondering if high fructose corn syrup is a bad thing to use for a fast digesting carb after workout? what would be a better sub?

Dextrose or Maltose. High Fructose Corn Syrup is only really bad because it's a very refined form of sugar and is easier converted into glycogen and adipose tissue.

Culter says he drinks a Coke after his workouts for his simple carbs / insulin spike. Colas are near completely high-fructose-corn-syrup-junk

But then people also love to talk. and lil stories & shit like that sell magazines

On a similar note try comparing the ingredients of Coca Cola with Powerade.. hmm eerily similar w/o the carbonation & caffeine.

Interesting note: Also try a search of Gatorade vs. Powerade

I personally think it's better to just stay away from HFCS no matter what, it's one of the least healthy ingredients out there. For post-WO just use food with natural cane sugar, it'll do the trick just fine.

High Fructose Corn Syrup is terrible for you, and IMO will not be allowed much longer in food. It is one of the main reasons for diabetes, your body cant digest HFCS well at all if at all, enriched and modified ingredients are not that great either but IMO HFCS is the worst of all, stay away from it and you will be fine. I stay away from all of these and I do just fine.

agreed^^

it is really easy to add some sugar to your post workout protein shake.

I personally try to get a couple servings of fruit in immediately after my workout. Ill bring bananas or apples in my gym bag. Or sometimes Ill make my chocolate protein shake with cocoa mix & sugar

I like raw honey even though most don't agree, but it has very beneficial qualities and is better for you than sugar.
