gaining weight to fast on bulk

hey guys, im on my bulk right now and i started at 160. its been about two weeks and ive allready gained 4 pounds. Is this normal?. ive been eating all clean and making sure i get 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight. My carbs obv. are higher than usual. I get scared tho of gaining alot of fat when i bulk because i used to be overweight.

if you have been cutting real strict you will gain weight pretty quick the 1st few weeks.I am the same as you.I lost about 80 lbs and started competing but was afraid to bulk like I needed to.I just did my bulk from nov - feb and stayed under 12% BF.Just keep eating clean and make sure youre eating good carbs like wheat pasta and sweet potatoes and if you feel youre gaining little too much fat(youll gain some)cut back a little on the carbs or pick up your cardio

I meant to also add that I gained 42 lbs on my bulk which was a scary thought but I kept an eye on things like I said for you to do so this way I knew what I was gaining.A good rule of thumb is if you can still see 4 of your abs you are 10% bf or less.

The vast majority of weight you gain the first two weeks will be water and glycogen. If you are coming off a reduced carb diet, then your body will be storing at maximal and even supra-maximal amounts. For every 1 gram of carbs stored as glycogen, your body will also hold an additional 3ml of water in the muscle cell. This can really add up. Then, you may also gain some subcutaneous water (which will be shed with time) from the greater food consumption. All these factors attribute to the weight gained in the first 2-4 weeks of a bulking diet. Very little is muscle or fat.


Personally, I maintain about 5% body fat year round by following an anally strict diet and exercise program.
