Hydrogens are added to mono or polyunsaturated fatty acids to reduce the number of double bonds - making it more saturated. They have hydrogens on opposite sides of the double bond. Being more saturated decreases oxidation and increases shelf life which means more $$. They are usually never fully saturated, just partially so it is not a "full saturated fatty acid" just part of it hence the name... partially hydrogenated fatty acids.

Fat is 9 calories per gram regardless of if it is mono/polyunsaturated, partially hydrogenated, or saturated fat.

Worse for your heart.

Hope this helps, it gets kinda geeky!

Fats aren't completely responsible for making people fat. Some fats are better than others. Some fats actually are good for you; monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. The there are the bad fats; saturated and trans fats. From my understanding, Trans fats are to withhold a longer shelf life in foods at a food market. Limit the amount of packaged foods you eat, or find the right packaged foods, and you should be fine. Sometimes you can't escape the bad fats, because they're in essential foods.

I don't get your question... fat or more fat... They might not make you fat at all. If your caloric intake is at or below your needs you will not get fat.

Well.. fat is 9 cal/gram no matter trans or unsat. or mono or poly. The reason people get fat is because they take in to much of all of these. Just because trans fat is worse for your body than an monounsat or a poly, doesnt mean it gives you more cal/gram. Overall transfat is just worse for your health, but to much of even good fat will make you... well... fat.

Hope that helped a little.

I think what he is trying to ask is, what is worse for you? Saturated fat or trans fat?
