ok guys, i was talking to my friend who's an experienced bodybuilder and he says that there's not a huge difference between brown rice and white rice nutrition wise.

also, he says you get a huge insulin spike after eating white pasta. is this true?
i though white pasta was also complex carbohydrates.

First off your experienced bodybuilder friend is an idiot! There is a HUGE difference between brown and white rice. Brown rice is a complex carb whereas white rice is a simple carbohydrate. Brown rice is ideal for meals that are not directly after a workout because it is a complex or slow absorbing carb. White rice is ideal post workout because of its fast absorbing properties meaning the carbs will transfer quickly to your muscles.

Pasta as a whole should not be taken as a insulin spiker. Pastas are considered complex/slow digesting carbs. If your looking for an insulin spike say post workout then try eating some simple carbs such as white bread and jelly or low fat poptarts. These will get the sugars quickly to your muscles while you are anabolic after your workout. If you have any other questions let me know man.

White rice has been processed to prolong the shelf-life and it looses its nutrients during this process. Bown rice isnt processed so it keeps all its nutrients. The best foods for an insulin spike are things like doghnuts and cupcakes.

Disregard the idiot above. If you wann get an insulin spike while gettin a week's worth supply of saturated and maybe a lifetime of trans fat go ahead and stuff your face with some good ole Kripsy Kreme doghnuts. NOT! If your really trying to get an insulin spike drink some gatorade or research some supplements. There is plenty of products to help with this.

hhmmm so im an idiot huh, Well i guess you know that simple carbs come from fruit, table sugars, cakes and soft drinks. Both of our suggestions are there.

So lets compare them shall we.
A doghnut has 22g carbohydrate, 10g sugars with 13g fat and 7 saturated fat. The recommended daily allowence of saturated fat is 20g and thats for a 2000 calorie a day diet. 500ml of gatorade has 24g carbohydrates with no fat. Thats only 2g more.

Now for why i picked food over a drink.
After a workout you have protein shakes with usually about 400-500ml of water or milk. So that and gatorade is about 1 litre of juice, thats alot to be having at one time and its much easier to EAT something and have a shake. Especially when most people have a full meal an hour after the w/o, its very hard to drink 1 litre of juice then eat a full meal an hour later.

Eating a full meal is more important than 2g more carbs!!!

you are fully entitled to disagree with what someone says, but not to be a dick about it. Great way to start off here Franco
