FYI, I drink a Probolic-SR shake (one or two scoops depending on my diet that day) before sleep...it's a protein mix that takes 12 hours to digest (some whey that digests very quickly, some egg protein that is 2-3 hours, some casein that is 5-7 hours, etc.). Covers me through the whole night.

Just make sure you take it and then piss before you go to bed so you're not woken up with a bladder full of 32 oz of water ;-)

12 hours to digest? Casein is the slowest digesting protein i know, and as you stated, only takes 5-7 hours. So, how does this protein mix take 12 hours to digest?

I honestly don't know. I didn't mean to hype one particular product - that's just what I use. My overall point was that taking a slow-digesting protein before bed will keep your muscles fed while you sleep.

Now that I'm home, I'm looking at the Probolic-SR tub and it says it's a mix of whey, soy, and casein. There's a lot of other verbiage, but I can't make out anything else that isn't marketing. Here's the link on MHP's web site: Maximum Human Performance :: Protein Powders :: Probolic-SR 2lbs (Choose Flavor)

Hrmmm, well, supposed to be some medical break through apparently. But average joe has no possible way of confirming this at all.

But you like it huh? As long as it has a mixture of proteins, especially casein, whey, and something in between, i see nothing wrong with it but the fact that the 4 lbs versions arent available in more diverse flavors. Which one do you take? And to my knowledge, this stuff isnt THAT expensive, though i find it hilarious that their amino acid profile is given per 100 g of protein. When, it only has 20 grams of protein per recommended serving. :|

Gotta love the fluff some companies use.

from my understandings you get your rem sleep in the last few hours of sleep (thats why you always more tired if you get up early than if you go to bed late)
waking yourself up would have to have an impact on how you felt in the morning wouldn't it?
also, if I get up to piss, I'm still basically asleep the whole time.
To eat a meal you'd have to be fully awake and it might be harder to get back to sleep.
I'm probably wrong, but thats my 2 cents worth!

I use it for "long burn" protein, and I use Syntrax Nectar for the typical short-burn whey.

The chocolate is actually quite good - like chocolate cake batter, as someone pointed out. I don't recommend the orange creamsicle. I mix with water, so if you use milk your mileage may vary...

I can say this, when I was younger and worked out I didn't have a choice, I would wake up starving so I would get up and eat, it never bothered me because eating usually makes me feel sleepy anyways :)
