For me. I don't have an off season, thats because as much as I love bodybuilding I dont like the idea of competiting. I bulk and cut, thats all I do. And I like to eat at least every 3 hours all though I do use tricks while dieting to make it very comfortable for me, those tricks would be that I eat foods that I like. Bulking I commonly eat popcorn as a main carb source, cutting while on keto I have my chipotle sauce.
I've also eliminated any sort of award system that I might associate with food soley, instead of "If you finish your dinner -you get to eat desert-", I get to work out if I get all my meals in. Humans at the base system, just like all other creatures work off of reward systems, once you decide what your rewarding yourself with then its much easier to go on.
There was even a time I ate butter because I had no high fat food in my house and I needed fat. It was cold and nasty, but I did it because I needed it.
