Man only one person responded... This is BIG news if you ask me. Most people equate carbs with refined carbs and fats with trans and sat. fat instead of complex carbs and unsat. fat. Anything I have ever read including actual textbooks have said fat is the most satiating (provides a sense of being full).

I agree, this is very big news, very contradictory in several aspects when it comes to what i was taught to believe.

I cant believe they have only just done the experiment to find this out for sure, or is the discovery of ghrelin only a new thing?

Really? The theory that protein results in the best satiety is certainly not a new one....in fact, I'd go so far as to say that it has been fairly widely accepted for some time.

At any rate, still an interesting article.

I think it makes sense that fat would produce more of a sense of being full than protein would. Especially when your looking at ketogenic diets where the fat content is higher than the protein content.

Interesting piece Effects of a high-protein ketogenic diet on hunger, appetite, and weight loss in obese men feeding ad libitum -- Johnstone et al. 87 (1): 44 -- American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

Interesting.. anything I have ever read has said fat; up until a few days ago. Previously I have NEVER ran across anything saying protein. Where did you?

Granted, the web is my only option for providing resources/evidence in this format, but nevertheless- here is just a small smattering of a seemingly endless amount of information that puts forth the theory that "protein satiates best," and all are a minimum of 2 years old:

The Effects of High Protein Diets on Thermogenesis, Satiety and Weight Loss: A Critical Review -- Halton and Hu 23 (5): 373 -- Journal of the American College of Nutrition

Protein Source, Quantity, and Time of Consumption Determine the Effect of Proteins on Short-Term Food Intake in Young Men -- Anderson et al. 134 (11): 3011 -- Journal of Nutrition

ScienceDirect - Appetite : Effect of habitual dietary-protein intake on appetite and satiety*1
