Holds water for one.. If you consume to much of it, I'm sure there are other reasons

not too good for your kidneys either as kidneys regulate water in the body.

like it was said blood pressure and kidneys
But for bodybuilders its the holding water issue if you are going to compete.Of course you need some sodium because you need to hold some water.Your muscles are made up of mostly water

Sodium is not "bad for you."

You need sodium for many many purposes in the body. For your muscles to contract, for your muscles to stay hydrated, to keep blood volume regulated, for nerves to send messages from one to the other, to help your muscles absorb protein, carbs, and fats.

If you exercise, drink plenty of water, do not have hypertension (high blood pressure), and you're consuming a healthy diet and exercising, which I assume you are asking such a question, then there is no need to watch your sodium intake.

Now, if you are hypertensive, eat junk food and inactive, then sodium will contribute to your problems..

Tuna fish: seems to be a staple in nearly all bodybuilding diets.

those foods may contain sodium, but remember that some of them contain potassium too which counteracts the sodium, your best choice is to get a healthy balance of the two. it's like everything in life, it's not gonna be good for you if you abuse it.
