Hello All-
New to this site, so I am not sure if anyone is on Abs Diet, South Beach, Atkins, etc....

But I am 33, about 240 lbs, and I need to lose weight. From all the plans out there, in my opinion, the ABS diet is pretty solid. It is all about power foods, eating 6 meals a day, no alcolhol, no trans fats, no calorie counting, and working out. The no counting, weight training, and easy foods list is what attracted me to this plan.

Anyone else on it?

The power foods on the plan are:

1) Almonds and Other Nuts eaten with skins intact.
2) Beans and Other Legumes
3) Spinach and Other Green Vegetables
4) Dairy: Fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese
5) Instant Oatmeal: Unsweetened, unflavored
6) Eggs
7) Turkey and other lean meats. Lean steak, chicken, fish
8) Peanut Butter - All-natural, sugar-free.
9) Olive Oil
10) Whole-Grain Breads and Cereals
11) Extra-Protein (Whey) Powder
12) Raspberries and Other Berries

And the program includes a workout training schedule.

Thanks ahead of time for any replies...

i dont believe in following particular diets...most of them are just the latest fashion. if you wanna lose weight, just eat clean, get in plenty of fruit and veg and do plenty of cardio along with weight training

I agree with Kenney. If you don't moniter the foods you eat then you can easilly overeat. If I ate until I was full on that diet I would probably put on a good 4 pounds a week.

Good advice thanks...

A few questions for you or the group0

So do I need to count calories / protein / carbs/ fat when I monitor or just the food types and qty?

And I was confused, don't bodybuilders want to be fit? Maybe I am wrong, but everyone on this site is not a professional bodybuilder right?

Either way this site is great, and I am learning a lot

sorry about that mate, when i said Mens Health is aimed at people that want to be fit, i meant guys that want to stay lean (at the same weight) and look good for women. bodybuilders strive to gain weight and get bigger. it depends on your goals and what you want to accomplish.

count calories, protein intake, carb intake and fat intake. keep track of what you are taking in. maybe you could start a log in the 'Training Logs' section, that normally is a big help for people tracking their progress

I think the Abs Diet does a good job of giving you a list of healthy foods you should be eating if trying to lean out (which most of us do at some point, even if we're living a bodybuilding lifestyle) but I don't like the idea of constantly monitoring the "6 powerfoods a day" thing, seems tedious and unnecessary to me. If you're trying to cut then watch your calories, keep your portions under control, eat a balance of carbs and protein at every meal, eat the right kind of carbs at the right time of the day, etc.

Freak has written a lot of good stuff regarding dieting, search the forum for his informative posts.

Count calories is the way to go. Like I said before, if you just eat waht you want as long as it's heathly then its not good for you. One serving of this healthy peanutbutter I bought has 200 calories a serving, 150 from fat, if I wanted to I could eat the container for the whole meal and put in more than 1500 calories worth of fat.

The whole "fit" thing is a cutural thing when it comes to the word I think. For the bodybuilding world fit means the guys that are in those abercrombi models that are just leanish without much size and are meant to just look good. Theres even a difference of connotation when the word is used in the US and in the UK etc.

And not everyone is a pro here, remember for alot of people this is just the lifestyle not the profession.
