Why have carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are an ideal source of energy for the body. This is because they can be converted more readily into glucose, the form of sugar that's transported and used by the body, than can proteins or fats. Their are two types of carbohydrates, simple and complex.

SIMPLE CARBOHYDRATES

what are they?
Simple carbohydrates are made up of single sugars (called monosaccharides) or two sugars joined together (called disaccharides). These sugars are quickly broken down in the mouth and stomach and are absorbed into the blood stream, causing a rapid rise in blood sugar levels. This rapid rise causes the body to produce a sharp rise in insulin levels and results in the sugars being converted into fat - something we want to avoid

what are their names?
Sucrose
Fructose
Glucose
Maltose
Lactose
Dexstrose

what foods are they in?
Fruit
Fruit juice
Table sugars
Honey
Cakes
Soft drinks

Complex Carbohydrates

what are they
Complex carbohydrates are molecules that are made up of many sugars joined together. Starchy carbohydrates are an important source of energy. Because the molecules are made up of many sugars, it takes longer for the molecules to be broken down in the stomach. This means that the sugars are released more slowly into the blood stream, avoiding unwanted peaks in blood sugar levels.
Starchy carbohydrates are the body's favourite fuel. This is because starch provides most of the glucose our body needs. Glucose is the preferred energy source for muscles and the other tissues and organs of the body. In fact, glucose is the only energy source the brain will use. Because of this it is vital that we have a regular intake of starch in order to help us meet our glucose needs.

what are thier names
Starch
Dietry fibre
Maltodextrin

what foods are they in
(starch)
Bread
Cereal
Potatoes
Pasta
Rice

(fibre)
Bran
Wholegrain foods
Raw vegetables
Nuts
Seeds

What should i have when?
From when you wake up until a few hours before you go to sleep you should be eating complex carbohydrates because of the slow released sugars. i.e it will give you energy throught the day. The only time you should have simple carbohydrates is straight after exersicing and even then they arn't that important unless your an endurance athlete.

Nice post!! I don't believe you should have simple carbs after exercising, that's a time for a complex. And you don't really need carbs when you wake up.

Reps.

Wrong wrong. Simple carbs should be taken after you workout, not just for endurance athlethes either. Simple carbs cause an insulin spike, insulin is one of the most anabolic substances that are naturally produced in the body when used at the right time, after working out its the right time.

Why wouldn't you need carbs when you wake up? That's 6-10 hours without food, and when you are on a normal diet carbohydrates are the preferred energy source for the body.

the reason i said you shouldn't have simple carbs after excersize is because your glycogen stores after excersizing isn't that important to bodybuilders because we’re mostly concerned with muscle growth, fat loss, and getting stronger and the stores will repplenish during the next meal anyway. although i didn't know that insulin was the most anabolic substances in the body so i will look into it and change the post if needed. Also i guess you were meaning why you wouldn't need simple carbs in the morning, well i got this from kaboom in this post Morning Carbs and he is a pro bbd'er so im guessing he knows his stuff

That's where I read it bro thanks for the catch. My apologies for screwing up. Didn't know about the insulin either.

Sounds good man, maybe you could make an outline atached to this thread on what you read about it. Would be helpful, not just to me, but I think the whole Dungeon would benefit.

First, you misread what he wrote, and I was refering to KM's post about not needing them when you wake up.

No need for simple carbs in the morning unless you just want them and can handle the extra carbs ie:skinny!
