I heard if you want to lose weight, you have to stop eating around 7 and go to sleep around 10. Dont eat at night, but if you a bodybuilder, does the same rule apply?

Lets say you don't eat around 7, you go to sleep at 10, get a solid 8 hours of sleep, you fall asleep around 10:30. You wake up at 6:30, almost 12 hours after you have ate your last meal.

If your BMR is 2400 calories a day, your metabolism would slow down say around 30 percent (I forget the number off hand) you lose 800 calories of protein and fat. Even if you lose 200 calories worth of protein only thats 1/3 of a pound of muscle.

Regardless of who you are, every 2-3 hours you eat.

Not eating after 7 is nonsense, a pre bed meal is very beneficial to thwart off catabolism/ preserve lean mass.

If your trying to lose weight, I wouldn't eat say a baked potato before bed, but a slow digesting protein (animal source, casein/cottage cheese) a bit of fat, a table spoon of natty Peanut Butter, and I bit of fibrous vegetables. Would be great, just make sure you work them in to your overall calories for the day.

as far as eating every 2-3 hours, you most likely don't have to be so anal about it, 5-6 meals is optimal, but beyond 6 you probably won't see much benefit.

Every 2-3 hours is only 5-8 meals at the most, nothing anal about that :)

sorry man, I didn't mean to make it look like I was calling you out or anything.

I just wanted to let the OP know that if you can't get 6 in, its not the end of the world and that 2-3 hours is not set in stone (i.e. 4 is acceptable in most cases) so long as overall calories are met there probably won't be a problem.

Now for nutrient partitioning I would think that 6 meals is idea, beyond that I think is excessive.

but yeah, I'm on your side lol

Anal is waking up in the middle of the night (3am) to get my casein protein shake.

If you are truley worried about fat, set a carb cut off at 6-7pm. Eat proteins and healthy fats before bed, and just stay away from the carbs.

Eat Up,

Yeah unless you wake up to pee.. don't wake up just to take a shake. Throws off your sleep cycle and REM sleep.

I think this has been covered pretty well, but the bottom line is: Eat some high-quality protein before bed with some fats as well. The fats will help to further slow down digestion.
