I make quick oats (I know, I know I should be eating steel cut oats).. take too damn long to make.

Quick oats - 2 servings = 2 mins in microwave then put fruit on top.

Besides preparation time, what is the difference between instant oats and steel-cut oats? Is there a nutritional difference?

Steel Cut Oats or Scottish Oats or Irish Oats- These are groats which have been cut into two or three pieces. Cooking time is considerably longer than for rolled oats.

Instant Oats - are usually packaged with salt and sugar

Mr. Bhana there is a notable distinction between quick oats and instant oats.

Quick oats (what I eat) is regular oatmeal from the big cardboard containers - no added sugar, sodium, etc..

Instant oatmeal- is the kind you generally find in packets with a bunch of different flavors. This is the kind you don't want.

Steel cut oats - B-Vitamins, calcium, protein, and fiber. A little more nutrient dense than quick oats and supposed to taste better too.

Yeah, I've tried eating quick oats cold before. I've got a pretty decent stomach, but I couldn't handle it. I definitely recommend that most people heat their quick oats. A minute on high in the microwave is fine.
