Yep, we eat a lot of watermelon and the wife and I wanted to know the best way to store it. We buy it at Sam's and it's a whole melon and cheap that way, so we need to know some tips on how to keep it for longer times.'

Thanks gang.

I always cut mine in half and put it in the fridge... this could very well not be the best way but they last for a while and taste good

I would say cover it. The only bad thing about a fridge is that unless you have seperate compartments for everything you risk the chance for foods to pick up funny smells/tastes and if you don't have good habits on placing your meats in a certain location, cross contamination.

But I usually throw it in the fridge covered in either plastic wrap or I cut it up and throw it into a tupperwear.

well my friend it will dry up faster if you dont cover it, so cut it up in any way you like. Then place it in tubs or cover it in plastic wrap.

Air kils everything. There is moister in the mellon you need to keep it that way. If you bought it at the ( ripe ) point shelf life is about 3 to 5 days. It's better to buy it in small quanties, unless you eat it alot then, buy it whole and eat it daily.

I do that alot in the summer.
