Fruits are by definition simple carbohydrates. Bananas gi is around 51. I know for sure it is below the 55 cut off and is considered a low gi carb.

Fruits = fructose

monosaccharides: glucose, fructose, galactose (gfg)
disaccharides: maltose, sucrose, lactose (msl)
polysaccharides: glycogen, starch, fiber (gsf)

correct me if im wrong here but, fruit are simple carbs in that fructose is a simple carb, however fructose cant be directly absorbed by the body and has to be converted into glucose, which more or less makes it a slower digesting carb.....i think thats right?

Right in a way. Fructose when taken by itself is usually malabsorbed but when taken with another carb it is absorbed fine. Fructose however is not broken down to glucose. Fructose tranverses the cells of the small intestine by facilitated diffusion. Fructose will raise your blood sugar as will any carb but I do not like to recommend it for post workout for this reason and the fact that it does not fill glycogen/liver stores as well as glucose (which uses active transport) thus is much more optimal.

Good memory. It's hard if you don't think about that stuff a lot after you read it you usually just forget it. When you start getting into the GLUT5 (glucose transporter 5) stuff that is where Layne comes in. I have not taken biochemistry but am working my way toward it.

If Layne can find the time maybe he can take a picture of some of his biochem books (the thickness). I was talkin with a pharmacology professor who teaches biochem and saw 2 volumes of one book and they were the thickest damn things I have EVER seen. It is NUTS!
