yo all
i'm on a cutting diet atm and i can't decide myself between 180g carbs a day or 240g a day.. dont need help with the diet itself, just those two valors, i'm 80kgs.

whats your bodyfat %? but if you base it on 80kg's then id go 180 for msot of the week then throw in a 240g day so you dont get used to the 180g and plateau

adjust your carbs accordingly. if you see your not shedding anything, drop them. if you see your shedding to fast, raise them.

there is a limit your body canhandle of how low you take in carbs..once you go past a certain point of such low carbs your body goes into a state called ketosis. During this state your body uses the amino acids your muscles need instead of carbs since you have barely any. Of course you dont want your body to use amino acids for energy becuase that results in huge muscle loss. Lower your carbs to the limit that you know you will not go into this state. The pharmacy store sells ketostix that you urinate on them and they turn purple if you are taking in to olittle carbs and are in a state of ketosis. If the indication of low carbs is present immediately bump up the carbs and keep testing until you are ok. 1gram of carbs per pound of bodyweight is ideal.

I've never heard about the ketostix before :o, but as Ap305 said 1gr of carbs per pound of LEAN weight is the way to go.

About ketosis. Done right it can be a very effective fat burning technique. If you've seen AlteredBeast from this site he was on it at some point a while back (if I remember correctly).

While on ketosis your body will burn both protein and fat for energy. The idea here is to take in enough protein in your diet to prevent muscle loss during this. Basically you trade in carbs for protein, the extra protein gets used for energy.

Some people can mantain this with up to 30 carbs a day, some people can with only 20. One way to tell that you'r on ketosis is by your breath, the only way the body can get rid of certain ketones is through excretion through the body, so you'll breathe it out basically.


And carb intake wise it really depends person to person. If your taking in too few carbs a day, the next day your workout will feel sluggish, carbs are used to restore the energy in your body that you'll use primarilly for weightlifting, so if you don't get enough one day you won't feel strong the next.

Eh, it's not exactly bad breath like morning breath. Kind of hard to explain the scent, someone would have to smell your breath close to your face to smell it.

The process is similar to how alcohol is excreted. You know when people drink their breath smells like alcohol, even if they sweat you can smell it. The only difference with the ketones is the ones that get excreted the body cannot use for anything at all.
