I made this same mistake - alwasy adding banana, strawberries or something to my PWO shake in hopes of shuttlng the nutrients where they belong.

As you probably know - I kind of like to stick to natty options. What about using honey or plain old refined white sugar to accomplish this instead of the dextrose - and what is dextrose?

As for the M&F read, look to see how much GatorAide spends on advertising in that mag. Freak gives the author a little more credit than I would. I assume there was no mistake in that statement, but flat out BS to sell more of their advertiser's product.

White bread or white rice will do.

Dextrose:

Bodybuilding.com - NOW Dextrose - Corn Sugar! On sale now!

Another option is grinding up white rice with a coffee grinder although you either need to make a thick shake or drink it fast because although it is a fine powder it sinks to the bottom fast.

Smarties would not be naturally occurring. I don't have smarties right in front of me so I am not certain but I believe that most candies use a combination of sucrose/high fructose corn syrup, the latter you want to completely avoid.
