i eat white rice basmati rice because its cheap at my local sams warehouse...how many cups per serveing would you guys eat..im 6ft 210ibs in pretty good shape..and only "cough" 46yrs old..right now my trying instant potatoes thinging that maybe their less in starches..

as for meat..im a all beef eater..85% beef cooked in two pans and then i use paper towel to soak up more of the grease..been trying to cut back on the fat ...its tough when you get older..

Chicken and turkey breasts are a good alternative for meats. White rice and white potatoes are only really good for breakfast or post workout. The rest of the day your gonna want to get either brown rice because it is much less processed than white rice, or sweet potatoes because they don't digest quickly.

also you asking how many cups per serving. 1 cup of white rice contains 600 cals, and 132 grams of carbs. now if your cutting that is just about your entire days carb allotment. for instance right now I am cutting and my carb intake range is between 149 and 192 a day. so 132 in ONE meal is WAY TOO MUCH. When I eat rice during the day it is usually only 1/4 cup sometime 1/2 if I lacked carbs in other meals

what he said^unless you are skinn y and have a hard time gaining. My daily carb right now in preparing for a show is less than 70 a day.But if you arent trying to cut right now white rice about 1/2 cup isnt bad even for supper or a small baked potatoe.Brown rice is better but not in taste.Oatmeal is a great carb to have in the mornings when im not cutting that is my snack in the evening also

Vampire,

If by 85% beef, you're talking about ground beef - They now have a 93% lean one as well. It contains 8g of fat per serving instead of 12g. Still quite a bit more than lean ground turkey, but better than what you're eating now - auto reduction in fat.

As for instant potatoes - absolutely not. This isn't going to do anybody any good, other than the manufacturer & it's stock holders. It's too processed. Sweet potatoes are a better choice, if you have to have potato, and brown rice is a better choice than white. Cook the brown rice in non-fat low sodiaum beef stock (I think I have a recipe for it under recipes). It tastes much better that way.

Also, look at other choices for your carbs - beans, lentils, barley, etc. These are - for the most part - slow burning as well, and have a lot of fiber!

On Cook's measurements, I think he is referring to pre-cooked volumes. (At least I hope so, if not then yipes!)
