I asked: How much water accompanies sodium?
Answer: At the atomic/molecular level, sodium ions are surrounded by up to 6 molecules of water. This would translate into about 10 g of water for each gram of sodium.
Now, if you take your sodium in a liquid form (energy drink, or water with high sodium content), it doesn't matter, since you know you're drinking mostly water. If you take it as pills, there might be a hygroscopic effect (water from the air being absorbed over time), then you don't know exactly how much water you're getting...
