Cardio first thing in the morning before you eat carbs. Eat some protein before hand so your muscles have fuel.

I also heard that many people leaning out will not eat carbs past a few hours before they sleep.

cardio before eating first thing in the morning puts you on an anti-muscle/gain path

Not if you eat protein (eg a protein shake) before hand. Just avoid carbs so you can burn what is stored rather than what is readily available.

theres a few schools of thought on cardio i used to do fasted liss every day for 45 minutes and im pretty sure i burned off quite a bit of muscle doing so....

now i do low intensity cardio on 2 of my traingin days in the eveningabout 2 hours after a protien and fat meal...

i think the cardio is okay to do after eating P and carb , ithink its got alot more to do with creation of that calorie deficit than it does what the body is using for energyat that certain time..

Low intensity cardio is definately the way to go.

High intensity exercise like running, cycling, etc. is fool's gold. I see people in the gym everynight slaving away on the cardio machines thinking they'll get ripped up. Most of them have been doing it consistently for months with no changes.

They don't understand that you need to lift weights and build muscle to increase your metabolism and turn your body into an automatic fat burner. I personally haven't done any cardio in the last 6 months.

I'm not saying that high intensity cardio is not hard. It can definately be one of the most mentally and physically challenging activities.

I used to run 7 miles a 6 times a week for about a year and it absolutely pushed me to the limit.

But my best results in terms of fat loss (not weight loss) have come from more moderate exercise. Studies have shown that maximum fat burning rate occurs during moderate intensity at about 60 - 65% VO2 max which corresponds to about 75% max heart rate for most people.

i couldnt agree with you more.....well sort of....

your studies are correct in the fact that "low intensity cardio does indeed burn more fat"...DURING THE ACTUAL EXERCISE...low intensity exercise however does very little for the metabolism, once your step off the treadmill....thats it...

HIIT however elevates the metabolism for hours after the exercise is over....

it was put to me like this...

"thinking about how much fat your losing during cardio is about as smart as thinking about how much muscle you are putting on while lifting the weight.."

good debate...i like looking at all sides..
