i have a question with regards eggs. Lately i'v started eating 2-3 raw eggs in the morning. Few in glass, mixed with a drop of orange juice & down the hatch! (followed by a bowl of oatmeal). Its a handy way to get ~20g of protein in without to much bother. what are peoples opinions on this? should i be worried about health issues like salmonella? i've never got sick or anything yet. The eggs i buy are local free range so i'd be inclined to trust them. Some will tell me be careful & others to get it in me twill do no harm. when people list X amount of egg whites and Y of whole eggs when detailing their food do they mean raw? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated cheers!

there are health consequences with everything you do... i've heard that egg whites you can buy by the carton are better for you when consumed raw. they are heated, i guess to separate the yolk from the white, then cooled and stored in the carton. the heating process kills a majority of the bacteria found in the eggs...

Say NO to raw eggs and check out the previous threads on the subject that span several pages.

With eggs you really dont have to worry about getting sick, it is like 1 in 3million that has something wrong with it.

"What's The Difference Between LIQUID And RAW Egg Whites?

The human body cannot completely and safely digest a raw egg white. So, if you like to do the "Rocky Routine" with a raw egg or raw egg white in your drink, you are wasting your time, not to mention the threat of Salmonella. Avidin, which is found in raw egg whites, blocks the uptake of Vitamin B6 (Biotin) causing a vitamin deficiency. You must cook the egg white to neutralize the Avidin and allow your body to safely digest the protein and utilize all its Amino acids."-Egg Whites International

Cook them up!

It makes little difference as Biotin is easily obtained form foods such as oatbran, beans, peas, peanuts, almonds, etc....

Plus you would have to consume a LOT of eggs everyday for long periods of time before any biotin deficiency is present.

The notion that humans can't absorb raw egg whites has to do with Ovomucoid.

"It has been suggested that the reduced digestibility of raw egg white is at least partially related to the presence of trypsin inhibitors in raw egg white (Matthews 1990). Ovomucoid is quantitatively the most important trypsin inhibitor (Gilbert 1971, Kassell 1970). Ovomucoid, however, does not react with human trypsin and, moreover, is relatively heat stable (Kasell 1970)."

The amount of protein absorbed when compared is statistically insignificant and the ones showing less absorbed or problems were done on ileostomy patients. In other words, there isn't much difference.

True-True, Very good point. The Egg Whites International group sells gallons of eggs and I don't know a serious bodybuilder who doesn't eat ALOT of eggs. You provide very valid information though, thank you!

Yes but the point is even if you do consume a lot of eggs, the amounts of Biotin you receive from just your diet alone is going to alleviate the problem.

Sometimes you just have to look at it from a common sense perspective. Is the condition true about Biotin? Yes. Is it a simple matter that is easily rectified with your diet alone. Yep

I have had great results with drinking a half carton of Liquid egg whites mixed with 1 scoop muscle milk in the morning for breakfast or as a pre workout drink..

Works good for me..

Important to note notthe1 that it seems that you are implying that (drinking them out the carton) they are pasteurized. Jmd was referring to raw eggs.

They sell raw egg whites in containers for about $1.50. They're pasteurized and already separated from the yolk

(0 cholesterol, fat, carbs and all other stuff,

50g protein in 1 container)

Definately need to cook your eggs in my opinion. i'm not a big fan of eggs at the best of times but the only way ican eat them is cooked not raw. The previous
threads on the topic of Eggs like theFreak350 mentioned
will give you plenty of ideas of how to eat them
