IF you had your choice between branch amino acids or glutamine which is better for protien synthesis, mass, and recovery?
I have taken bcaa for quite awhile now ,but my immune system doesn get weak from intense training, but my recovery and mass is good. From what I have read glutamine helps strengthens your immune system as well as recovery.Thats basically what seperates the two from what I have read. Thoughts?

well since you have been taking BCAA's you know how important they already are.

as for Glutamine, there is still some controversy:
Article: The Undramatic Muscle-Building Benefits Of Glutamine - by Marc David

some say it is 100% effective while others say its a wast of money, but as this article says "lets face it, nobody selling supplements will tell you Glutamine DOESNT work"

hope that helps

Or you could go with the BCAA drinks that are available. Our current version of Excell has the following:

L-Leucine 3.5g
L-Glutamine 2.5g
L-Isoleucine 1.75g
L-Valine 1.75g
Citrulline Malate 1g
Vitamin B6 10mg

We're actually going to be dropping the l-Glut very soon though in favor of Taurine, but other companies like SciVation's Extend have it too.

BCAA's by far. Glutmamine is worthless as it doesn't even get past the gut when you take it orally. All the benefits or glutamine that most supplement companies use are through an IV. Oral consumption shows virtually no benefits.

Keep in mind, if your taking Whey then you're going be getting some l-glut from that. anywhere from 3-5grams per serving.

I have been using Glutamine on and off for the past 5 years. The reason I would stop taking it was because I wanted to experiment with its effects.

I can say from personal experience that Glutamine has reduced soreness after workouts. For several months without taking Glutamine, I would feel the sharp/stabbing pain of soreness, especially after chest day and leg day. But once I started taking glutamine, my soreness would be blunted and would make it more bearable.

I can also attest that it helps with my immune system. I have always lived in close proximity to others since I am in college dorms, and as a result I would be in close contact with at least one person with a cold. Whenever I am off glutamine, I get sick. Whenever I'm on it, I don't get sick.

All of this could be a fluke and could be just coincidence. There may be countless other factors that I am not taking into account, but what I do know is that Glutamine has always been in the equation whenever my soreness levels are low or if my immune system is in tip-top shape.

This is all just from experience and I did not conduct a regulated study, so take it for what its worth.

Increase BCAA's and/or protein intake and you would get the same thing.
