I was wondering if you get up around 3 at night or so and take a quick meal replacement shake I was reading an article saying that your body is in an anabolic state when you sleep and is said you should eat before you go to bed so you have food in your stomache because nobody wakes up in the middle of the night to eat so I figured well why not get up and have a quick shake? your guys' thoughts on this?

Yea if you want to go for it. I personally drink milk before bed since its a good source of casein protein, which takes 6 hours to digest.

Jay Cutler does. If you feel comfortable doing that then by all means go ahead.

Don't stay up to long to make the shake, or just make it before you go to bed and put it in the fridge. If you stay up to long you may not be able to get back to sleep and may possibly lose that anabolic state you are in.

Premixing it saves alot of time. I take a day out of the week to mix together as much stuff as I can so that I don't have to spend the time putting it together when I do need it.

Shake in the middle of the night is a great way to add to your muscle gains. as you sleep your body is not getting adequate amounts of food; by taking in some protein your body is then able to use it in the muscle building process. Studies have shown that there is a significant rise in GH and TEST upon the first few hours of sleep, why not use that to your advantage and give you body some protein to build with.

The debate is over whether it is a good idea to disrupt REM or not.

I personally think the best way to deal with it is just drink a lot of water before going to bed and when you get up in the middle of the night to pee, down a shake and hit the sack.

That’s just my 2cents

Also if you want your body to wake you up in the middle of the night instead of an alarm clock, just drink 16-20oz of water or some liquid before bed. You will have to wake up to use the bathroom either way so you should just get a protein shake while you are at it.
