No, you don't want big spikes in insulin except in the morning or after a work out.

being that your 16, your working out hard, eating your 6 or more meals a day. I would say its fine, enjoy your youth and don't worry about insulin spikes and all that other crap unless you about to compete. But if your just building up your base and pretty much in an off season mode, don't worry about it and keep working hard in the gym and eating.

If you eat lettuce or most other green leafy vegetables, its like an empty meal, you can get full, but the amount of calories are so low it's like not eating anything at all. Most of the calories are used up to process the food. When i'm hungry between meals I binge on lettuce alot. Don't know about fruits.

Well vegetables are not empty nutrients but I get your point that they are low calorie so provide very little energy. Vegetables alone will trick you into thinking that you have eaten more than you actually have so just make sure to keep a journal to ensure you obtain the proper energy requirements for your specific diet.

I didn't mean empty nutrients, sorry if it came off like that. I meant more like a meal that you don't really count for. At random I picked the nutritonal value of lettuce for one cup

"Nutrition Facts (One cup raw leaf lettuce, chopped)

Calories 9
Dietary Fiber 1.3
Protein 1 gram
Carbohydrates 1.34 grams
Vitamin A 1456 IU
Vitamin C 13.44
Calcium 20.16
Iron 0.62
Potassium 162.4 mg"

Very low calorie.

No that's fine, I knew what you meant or at least what you were trying to imply. Vegetables = low calories.

theFreak was right, careful of simple carbs, especially sugary sources, late at night because it could lead to some fat gain bc you can't really use the insulin spike while sleeping.

Apples have a low GI rating, I think those are ok to eat.
