Without any source of carbohydrate, the levels of muscle glycogen will not be replenished effectively. In fact, when the body does not have enough carbohydrate (in the form of glucose) your body will shift into a catabolic process.
You have ceritan amino acids that are called glucogenic amino acids. As the name suggests, they can be stripped of thier amino group and, through a series of biochemical reactions, be converted into glucose. So if you limit your glucose, you eat muscle...thats the bottom line.
Of course, you WILL have fat being mobilized and burned as ketone bodies...but PROPORTIONATLY the body will recieve most of its "glucose" fuel from body proteins.
I would seriously consider a 0 or even low carbodyrate regimen. |
