Obvisously we need them. But the question I present to you is how many? If it matters I'm 5'6" about 185 pounds.

I usually like to keep my Pre/Post WO carbohydrates at around 60grams, always nutritionally sound, low-GI (this is only my opinion).

A low GI wouldn't cause a spike in insulin levels, which is what I beleive pre workout nutrition is for? I could be wrong. But I always beleive that was the goal.

Pre workout nutrition is to supply adequate energy and amino acid levels and "spiking" with a high GI source is not needed and can actually reduce performance.

Depends on the training program. Obviously if you were doing legs I would supply more and vice versa if you are just training arms.

I would say 30-60 pre, 15-20 during, 30-60 post depending on bodyparts training and goal.

Both points definitely sound advice. As Admin said an Insulin spike is what you want to avoid pre-training in favour of a stable nutrient balance.

And as he said, a squat based leg day is more taxing that a bicep day so Pre/Post WO nutrition should be as tailored as the rest of the day is.
