Of course it's possible to be healthy with such foods but eatin loads of it(with little or no exercise) is just plain stupid and that's why I am no longer a GI-"fantatic" as I was before. You should be more upset with the people that market this type of misinforamtion rather than the GI concept. THe nutrition and supplement industry is full of cpmanies exploiting a single sentence in one study performed on mice to market their products. :)

I don't even think there needs to be much of a debate. Since the beginning of this thread the majority of people understand that GI is a guide. The problem is when we take that concept and state its irrelevant which simply isn't true.

basically speaking:people gain interest in bodybuilding, start working out and when they hear or read that they should watch what they eat, they are put off.and my question is:is there a simpler way to diet?

Not really. If they put off diet then they will never get anywhere in this sport. Its a pretty simple concpet. You need energy to build muscle and if you don't supply it with adequate calories in both amounts and qulaity you simply won't grow. You can get big and strong simply by shoveling in calories but the majority of people won't LOOK like a "bodybuilder" if they don't watch what types of foods the consume.

It's suprising and sad how much some people can overlook the nutrition and rest part when it comes to bodybuilding, someone came up to me and asked me "what's the secret" I told them the secret mostly isn't actually the lifting itself but to concentrate more on nutrition and rest. You can lift all you want but without adequate nutrition and rest, don't expect to go far or make the best of your hard work. Going back to the GI topic, I try to incoporate good calories with not that high GI rating meals. I try to incorporate veggies in all my meals along with a good balances of fats and proteins.

Thanks a lot , One book that really helped to explain some stuff more in depth to me was the book called "Game Over" by Chuck Rudolph along with Marc Lobliner and Derek Charlebois. Scivation/Primaforce's book I believe and it has wonderful information and meal setups, it explains the perception that so many who are not bodybuilding savvy have about losing weight( not eating, starve to lose weight, etc.) The book uses a low GI concept along with balancing of protein, fibrous veggies, and good fats in every meal. I recommend it to all!

EDIT: Please no advertising.

I just read this list for the first time, thank you soooo much, it is extremely helpful to have all the values of all the foods in one place. The thing that I was wondering about though is sweet potatos. They have a gi of 77. Isn't that extremely high considering they are bb-ing staples?

And I was wondering if someone could please explain (in layman's terms, to an 18 year old amateurn) the difference between the glycemic load and glycemic index and what kind of values I should be looking for for both.

Thank you !!!

The list I used there was a little on the high side, I think I might go through and average out some of the foods. It was just the most comprehensive I took from. I have seen them as low as 57, they also have moderate-to-low Glycemic Load, which as has been stated is just as important when choosing your carbohydrates.
