Has anyone tried this? was it successful? Can you really put on muscle while losing fat?

I'm confused as to what you're asking. Are you talking about carb cycling or is this something different; if so can you post a link? And you can't gain muscle and lose fat at the same time due to one requiring a caloric surplus and one requiring a caloric deficit.

basically you don't eat carbs except pwo and ppwo. you increase fat and protein in place of carbs.

It's possible. What you want to look into is TKD, targeted ketogenic dieting. Ketogenic diets are used more so as recomposition style diets.

In theory it is possible, but more likely that you will either just maintain muscle or gain minimal muscle. Still not bad if you are losing body fat.

The best book on this type of thing is Lyle McDonald's The Ketogenic Diet. You can find a review on my blog.
