I was considering trying out a cutting cycle in which I would do 4 days on, with a 500 calorie deficit, and than 3 days on which I would do more of a clean bulk type of diet. Has anyone tried this? I know fat loss would probably be slower than with a traditional diet plan but would this still work?

Not sure. It may confuse your body too much. Why not just try cutting to say 15& bf then doing a clean bulk.

There's no specific reason why it wouldn't work. I have tried something similar, with 5 days below maintenance and 2 days above maintenance. The idea was to lose bodyfat and using the 2 "high" days to do a heavy full body workout in order to preserve as much muscle mass as possible. Note the change in calories came from carbs, it was a form of carb cycling.

To be honest, it didn't work any better than my usual 6 days cut and one cheat day. And psychologically, the cheat day was much better for me than 2 days of clean high-calorie eating.

MiniArnold... IMHO i think the confusing the body would be a good thing, the change in cals would keep the metabolism up, and like with lifting, mixing up routines is usually beneficial. hope Sandman will post the results, im anxious to see how it works.

Im not a big believer in "confusing" the body, the body does what it can with what it has,

I think the weight loss on this will be very slow and i doubt you will see noticeable results for a long time

Look at it like this

4 days on a 500kcal deficit = 2000kcal
3 days on a 500kcal surplus = 1500kcal

2000-1500= 500kcal deficit over 7 days thats minimal to say the least,

If you were to try something like this id say 4 days 500kcal under maintanince then 3 days at maintanince that way your 2000kcal in deficit which will equal about 1/2 pound per week
