im on the second week of dieting and ive been getting light headed every time i get up. its not stopping me from doin anything, but i have to pause for a minute after standing up so i dont faint. still, im in the best shape ive ever been and im improving constantly. (on a side note, this did happen seldomly before, but is now happening regurlarly)
im 5'10 and 180lbs. dont know bodyfat% but i can see abs, i still have small spare tire, i get tons of vascularity, and have fat to cut off chest and arms.
im eating a gram of protein per lb of lean mass. i cut down my fat calories to about 15% of total daily amount. i stay around 2500 calories per day.
i was eating about 3500 calories per day.
training consists of:
sun, mon, tue, wed- 2 hr boxing conditioning (about 1 hr and 45 min total workout time, intense workouts)
tue and thur: weight training- 45 min supersets. and 2 mile jog.
i tend to throw in extra weight training, i work at a gym and can work out when no one is around.
also, pushups and ab-crunches all the time, like during t.v. commercials, or during any otherwise down-time.
i find myself overtraining alot and i can handle it, but just wondering if the dizziness could be a result of something else and may be a sign of worse health stuff.

dizzyness can be a few things like lack of glucose. how many carbs are u eating? i get dizzy upon standing when im not eating many carbs. it can be iron deficiancy anemia but it wouldnt be that due to the amount of meat/protein u have.

sounds like your doing alot of training. you need carbs to support all that work your doing.

I get it too..it's not an issue if you are getting al the water you need. I can assure you it's not a glucose issue...I don't eat carbs and i'm doing just fine. Oh and if you want to lose extra weight then I should let you know that your calories are too high. I was at 2500 calories when I was dieting for my last show and I'm 6' and was weighing 210. I'm now 205 and climbing but still no where as many calories as you.

explain your logic behind it not being an issue?? the brain needs like 60% of the bodys glucose needs.... when ever i get dizzy upon standing its because im not eatin carbs. wen im not eatin carbs i feel like shit.... i eat carbs then i feel great again, makes sense if u ask me but feel free to enlighten me on why u think wat u do??

thanks to both you guys.

ill nino your probably right, im fine on glucose, i supplement it. its probably the carbs. im not too worried about feeling like crap, thats just my body whining about losing its fat! i will be slowing down training as well, but thanks for the concern.

alteredbeast thanks man. i was unsure if the dizziness was something to be worried about. i will progress to less calorie intake. how long you cut for?

Go and see your doc buddy! Get some blood tests done and a check up. You never know. I had the dizzys and found out it was my kidneys not being able to cope with all the added supps i was taking.

Hmm...How do i go about explaining this...Ok so, most people tend to think that glucose is brain fuel... and it is, and by your omission you are concluding that the body needs more glucose...Blood sugar to prevent dizzyness, but what most everyone doesn't realize is that the body can produce 100 grams of glucose BY IT SELF without added glycogen. Glycogen being the bodies primary source of fuel converts this fuel into glucose and in it goes into the bloodstream...This process is known as Glycolysis. But as aluded by many Scientists CARBOHYDRATES are NOT ESSENTIAL MACRONUTRIENTS...Because the body simply does not need them. It requires fat and protein and nothing more...Because it can produce glucose on its own. When you remove glycogen out of the liver(the bodies storage tank for Fuel) it starts to produce ketone bodies to help the body burn fat by supplying the brain help to finish the incomplete break down of lipids in the abscence of glycogen. Your body has now entered ketosis...the Ultimate arena of carb-less individuals. If someone like me who is in ketosis is not experiencing symptoms of extreme dizzyness then your glucose issue is not the reason. I also am opting to sell this paragraph short because I didn't even get into other aspects like gluconeogenesis and glucagon, etc...to further explain my point.

Also there is one question...If you are eating carbs and you have been doing so for a while then your liver would be supplying extra glycogen right? As a matter of fact alot of people make the mistake of eating too many carbs when dieting because of the spill over effect(too many carbs crammed in the liver already). So even if you were to have one solitary day where you went low carb...You would still have a lake of energy in your liver anyway for energy. So how is it a low glucose issue again?

justi... i dont take no supps cept fish oil, glutamine, and protein. my kidneys like me. i will be going to the doctors tho, better safe than sorry!

ketosis? burning fat for fuel? i like that!

keep arguing with altered beast, cause he keeps spitting out dietary gold. haha.

also, in an earlier post, i think i said that i supplement glucose?! ha. i meant glutamine.

my energy levels are not much different than they normaly are. i dont tire out any quicker, im a little more aggressive than usual, everyday i feel a little better! ha. i just get a little head rush when i get up quickly. probably cause i kick ass hard in the gym.

how can you supplement glycogen ? lol carbs = glycogen. ok so good reply AB yeh i know all what your saying and i know all about gluconeogenesis etc and i agree with wat your saying however i just feel better if i eat carbs. duno why but i just feel refreshed and alert again so i think it still does have an effect all though as you said the body can get glucose via glycolysis and gluconeogenesis.

I mean i've had some time to think about it... I guess what the variable really depends on is just how severe the dizzy spells are. If they are just a simple lightheaded feeling then it seems reasonable to assume maybe carb depletion. My only beef with that is just how long does an individual have to go without carbs to get periphial symptoms like dizzyness. I Know when I first went into ketosis my mind felt really weird...But it took literally 2-3 weeks before my liver depleted its glycogen stores. The liver is saturated with the stuff, so...hmm...I'll think about it more.
