Okay so heres what happened....

back in january I felt a pain in my lower back.... i stayed off it for a while (i thought it was a sprain) and it kept getting re-aggravated. so on tuesday i was playing soccer an i felt a really sharp pain in my back... i go to a sports doctor and he tells my i have a bulging disc. So now I've been just stretching and doing slight core work.

Has this ever happened to any of you? If so, how long did it take before you were back at the gym doing a regular routine? The doctor told me to lay off all exercises that require bending and all exercises where heavy weight is involved.

Cheers,
Nas

I dont think i had a bulging disc but i have hurt my back from soccer aswell. If i hadnt done anything for a month - 1.5 months it would have been fine but i kept trying to play and do exercise so it stayed for about 3-4 months. Definetly wait until the doc gives you the go-ahead and dont just start exercising again because you feel fine.

your good dude..i played JR. A hockey with a broken back, slipped disc and a herniated disc..there were days where i couldnt move because of pain. but i finished out the season and did thereapy after the season during summer. Its all your mind set and how much you can handle pain. plus now after goin to special drs and stuff i get pain killers anytime and those help alot especially on lifting days or when i know im gonna be singled out in a game and gotta prepare myself for some pretty tough hits...ull be good bro

but you were powerlifting at the age of 16 and at that time you were attempting deadlifts of 415kgs... because according to the last few posts in other threads at the moment youve been 3-4 months in training again... and youve been out for 18 months before then. you said your 17 yrs old at the moment and so that means you were 16 or maybe even 15? and deadlifting 415 kgs now id find that really hard to belive because if you could thatd hafta be like some sort of record. and you got a back injury, doesnt take a genius to guess why that was...

Fuk off you cant deadlift 410 kg, I thought it was a typo or sumthing but now you seem to be saying its true so let me prove you wrong here. 410 kg is 903 lbs, This is a video of ronnie coleman lifting 800 lbs for 2 reps. YouTube - Ronnie Coleman - Deadlift 800lbs so he cant lift 900lbs Also mariusz pudzianowski on his official site says his personal best deadlift is 395kg although the site hasnt been updated in a few years but on wikepedia it says his best deadlift is 420kg. So unless your saying you can deadlift more than a 8 time mr olympia and can deadlift the same as a four time worlds strongest man champion thats is utter bullshit.

yes, it did happen to me, only I am sure that mine was much worse than yours sounds. And second, it took me about 9 months to return to normal. I was 19 at the time.

First, I had two herniated disks in my lower back due to a football injury. The damage was quite severe and was creating a lot of radial pain down my right leg. I had a lot of bad advice given to me by some medical professionals which included a lot of stretching and heat. They didn't appreciate how serious my injuries were and both of their pieces of advice I was given ended up perpetuating the problems that I was having. The pain was often so severe that I couldn't function at all. I basically did not walk for about 5 of those 9 months.

Second, after I found a doctor who understood the issues fully, things started to get better. Since the disks in your back do not have their own blood supply, they tend to take quite a long time to heal. Since I had two herniations-- far worse than a mere bulge-- it took quite a while, but it usually only takes 6-8 weeks.

I would say avoid putting any unnecessary weight on your spine. I would avoid lifting for the entire time that it takes to get it better. Don't mess around with your back.

Oh, and one other thing, it is almost certain that once you suffer a disk protrusion of some type, you will be prone to re-injuring your back for the rest of your life. This is going to make you the king of perfect form! It has for me.

Are you a powerlifter more than a bodybuilder mate, that is some weight, do you compete in lifting comps?
