I have not donated blood in the past year or so because I hate taking time off from the gym. I have a Health/Medical class that donating blood is part of a project.

WELL question is how long does it take for your body to replenish its blood supply??

The Red Cross only recommends restraining from heavy physical work for a day (I think). But they only let you donate every 8 weeks. So how long does it take for me to be lifting 100% at the gym?

hmm... So I guess it won't hurt me. But how much will it slow my gains? or will it not do that either?

My main concern is that I am training for a powerlift meet at the end of April. If this will only have minimal effects on my training then its fine, but if I will be stuck at this plateau until the meet.... then I might as well not compete.

All right I'll do it. But the Red Cross only lets you donate once every 8 weeks so it must take a while for something in your body to replenish itself.

yeah,, the S.O.G or Standard Operating Guidline for the American Red Cross and the Central Blood Bank is every 56 days or about 2 months.. Hence 8 weeks.

Today I ran 2 miles, gave blood 1.5hrs later, went to the gym 2hrs after that. She said just don't do anything with your arms or upper body so I did legs. My rests were a minute longer than usual but I didn't wanna pass out. You'll be fine. Just drink extra fluids and eat more.

Thanks for the input everybody

You were able to do LEGS??!? on a day when you gave blood? that is brave my friend. I would have figured that would have been heller if you might suffer from woozyness. lol But if you were able to handle that and yall say that your blood is quick to recover, then I'll give it a go!

I used to be worried cuz if your body was wuick to recover then why does the Red Cross make you wait 8 weeks? Oh well, I'll give blood next time the Red Cross comes to campus.

Thanks yall!

Funny you have started this actually, I was about to do it yesterday for my first time but the guy said you cant do any exercise after it because it puts too much strain on your heart. I will remember this for next time though.
