what saying looks OK, but don't keep it so rigid. Sometimes just go by feel, if you feel like another set go for it, but just remember not to overdo it. Smaller muscle groups like biceps don't need to take as much punishment

I do 3 to 4 sets for each for the large muscle group excersize, Chest, Back and Legs. For the smaller ones I do 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps and change the technique to something different and superset some if I feel like.

Follow your gut, bro. Theres nothing more to it. I do as much as my body can handle. I never go over 4 sets on the benchpress as this will much likely lead to overtraining. So then I jump over to the next exercise which is incline bench press and do another 4 sets. On squats I can go as much as 6 sets sometimes depending on how I feel.

So as I said, do as much as you feel your body can handle.

Just like Chris said, it's better to do 3 to 4 sets for each for the large muscle group exercise, Chest, Back and Legs and do 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps for the smaller ones.
