I've been having some pain in my elbows, hand and my right shoulder. It's more noticeble on days that I don't train at all.

Are there any supplements or food that I should be eating that can help to aliviate it?

Stretch, and warm up carefully. Try to put more stress on ur muscles than ur joints. U might wanna try glucosamine.

so ur sick and have joint pain, or just the joint pain? i mean joint aches come with being sick occasionally...but there is an arrayof supps for joint pain --

fish oil
glucosimine
chondroitin
msm

if its an inflamation, take some ibuprophen for a few days until it settles and really take in considoring warming those areas a lil more than before training. i fill all my problem areas with blood before i get going.

if i'm training tri's, i'll always do a few sets of 20 with light weight on the rope push down to get the joint lubed up.

I personally battled with joint pain after all of my football playing years in my right knee, my left ankle, my right shoulder, my right wrist, and my left tricep (more of a tendon thing).
First off I realized that i'm not going to be able to train as wreckless as I had in the years before, and playing it smart was the next thing I realized. So number one...As mentioned before focus on the mind to muscle connection and form. Form is different for everybody and form in this context is basically setting yourself up for an exercise that allows you to work your muscle(s) as effective as possible. Just because someone says your doing something wrong doesn't make it always the case. If your feeling where you want to feel it then great.
For my knees-no more running unless I absolutely have to. Running makes my knees swell somewhat so I've switched the cardio to reduced-impact or zero-impact. Also, when doing leg exercises I focused on squeezing and flexing the quadriceps and hamstrings instead of getting the rep in any fashion possible. Also, I swab on ICY_HOT to warm up the patella and surrounding areas.
For my shoulder I learned to correctly bench.... reducing the enormous strain put on the shoulder joints and ligaments. I also began doing way more laterals with high repetitions to really strengthen the whole complex; doing so also made the side delts grow, thus evening out my proportions.
Overall though, the supplement Animal Flex has worked flippin' amazing. No joke...A week and half later of consistently using the stuff my whole body just felt better. The results were especially appearant when I went on a ride on my bike ( I'm a mountain biker) and my right knee didn't pop. And to this day still doesn't. My left ankle that was shattered my senior year in track also has reduced how much it pops and rolls itself.
As for my wrists-I just wrap them up for a heavy set of benches and that's it, they're not used at any other point in my training. My tricep pain is a result of overhead extentions that I ceased a while back. I hope you can get something out of this.

Oh yeah...to answer more specifically...For supps Do the glucosamine, chondroitin, MsM sulfite, Shark cartilidge, Fish oil, and EFA's in general. Animal Flex has all of this and more already in it, so definitely get it if possible, it's worth the money.

Billy D:

The joint pain started when I was sick, I also loss almost 4 and a half pounds of weight during last week. I had gotten up to 194 and i'm 189 pounds right now. I think one factor was that I had practically no fat in my diet for that whole week, and the week before I had a smaller cold, so these pass two weeks I haven't had enough fat.

I managed to keep down some milk and peanut butter last night and I got to say that I feel a little better today.

Animal: Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's from my training. The only time during my trainign where I have joint pain is if I lift a weight the wrong way or try to get it up wrong. I'll look into the animal flex.

Will definately look into Animal Flex. Im a mess with joint pains everywhere! Hopefully it will help. Does this stuff work for tendonitis aswell? I have it in both my shoulders for 8 months now.. Sucks, i cant do any shoulder exercises, or pressing movements.

Try UDO'S ultimate oil blend (omega 3,6,9) and glucosamine tablets

I swear by cissus for joint pain...I can't say enough about this stuff. USP labs sells it and they're a sponsor here.

you may want to try periodization for your program as well, so that your tendons have a chance to catch up to the heavy weights you may be doing.

Thanks. I was sick for two weeks and hadn't had the chance to get to the gym recently (or log on here and post as much as I wanted!). My father gave me some glucosimine he was taking and that did the trick.

I think your right about needing to let my tendons catch up too. I'm starting to tone down my rep range, i'm happy with my strength for now and I want to add more muscle for a while.

I'm feeling much better now, thanks everyone who posted!

Well, the problem probably caused by how you workout. You should use a EZ-bar when you can. When you use a straight bar, it an unatural angle for your body, so when your wrist is at a bad angle, it it puts your elbow and shoulder a an unatural angle. You can see that when you see a lot of pro working out if they use the straight bar, there 2 last finger are off, their hands are trying to face eachother, since that how it suppose to be. Don't fight against nature

It really wasn't how I was working out. My form is dead on. I don't use barbells for curls either, I use dumbells only.

I took it like three or four times. My joints are all better now though. I think it was just all that hard lifting. I've toned my rep range down now.

Heavy weight shouldn't cause problem with the joint. There is something else that causing your joint pain. Heavy weights are just making it worse

My diet was also pretty bad. I hardly had any fat intake for a week or two because I was sick. So whatever I ate i threw up.

Well, I don't think that is the reason for the joint pains, but you have to pace yourself. Eat a little more each day, until you back at where you used to be
