ive been going to the gym for about 5 months now and i feel like i can always do more and more without any problems, only every now and again my pecs are sore the next day in the morning, but that soon fades away after lunch time.

just wondering what exactally overtraining is, beacause in my eyes if you do a lot in the gym and you match your diet to suit it i dont see how you can over train.

even the people who do the research 'overtraining' can't accurately define it

I've been training now for 3 months. I lift everyday for 1hr 30min and take a rest day every 2-3 weeks. I eat a lot and eat clean. I have continued to gain weight and strength each week and have not felt or seen any signs of overtraining, despite warnings from people.

Like many other things (diet, supps, etc) I think everybody's body is different and responds in a unique way to the environment it is presented with.

My advice is to listen to your body and keep hitting it hard as long as you are feeling good mentally and physically.

I dont honestly think anyone ever physically overtrains. I think it is mental, and we all know when it comes to being successful in the gym it is 90% mental.

I know personally I need atleast 1 day off a week just because I like to have a day to let my self rest mentally after a hard weeks poundage.

Found this on another BB site:

Bodybuilding Myth #5

Monday is chest day, Tuesday is Leg day, Wednesday is Back day...

Splitting up a routine is preached like 'gospel' and is rarely on trial or questioned as the way to structure a muscle building routine.

And sure, splitting up a routine is fine and has some benefits BUT it is also the fastest way to over-train and burn out. Remember that you do not get stronger in the gym – you get stronger and bigger when you go home, rest, sleep, eat and FULLY recover.

To SUPERCOMPENSATE from your previous workout your muscles are not the only things that must experience a full recovery. Do not neglect the fact that you are taxing and depleting your central nervous system, hormonal system, and immune system – systems that, in fact, take longer than your muscles to recover.

Just because your muscles say, “OK we feel fine, let's train again,” you must still experience a FULL recovery prior to attempting to stimulate your muscles again for more muscle growth.

Consider this practical example. What is the best way to cure a sickness? By taking an entire bottle of aspirin in one sitting? Or taking smaller dosages at more frequent intervals? I hope you agreed with the second solution. So what is the best way to build muscle? Taking one
huge dosage per muscle group per week? Or taking smaller and more frequent dosages on a muscle group?

OT does not exist...but if u were going at it so hard and so often for so long with pathetic rest habits then you would feel it and you would have no doubts about it being OT. you need not worry.

Overtraining is difficult to measure or place a definitive limit that can be universalized to all people. With that said overtraining can happen but with a thoughtful approach to training, rest, diet, and supplements I would not worry about it.

soreness is not an indicator of growth. and you weren't overtraining... you were fatigued from your earlier workout

not that i disagree with hitting a muscle multiple times per week, but do you honestly think a comparison between muscular recovery & aspirin is really valid? c'mon
