what do you find the most effective for getting your calves to grow? i feel like i've tried a bunch of different routines, rep ranges, exercises, without much success.

doing standard calf raises or the seated versions at the start of a workout.
i do 2 sets of 20, then 2 sets of 12, then 2 sets of 7 and it works wonders for me.
sometimes ill do them at the end of a leg workout and do 2 sets of 30 which is really painfull

I've always heard that both the calves and forearms require intense effort, (hgh reps), to get their attention.

I've found that I get a much better pump on both calves and forearms by training to failure. (30-20-10 rep sets on forearms and 50-25-15 rep sets on calves).

Stick to seated calf raises and standing. I saw the most gains from those exercises.

i actually think its my job thats caused my calves to grow most, im always walking about with heavy carpets on a shoulder, seems to work even better than standing calf raise

Calves and legs are the hardest parts for people to grow. You walk on your calves all day long so you NEED to hit them with heavy weight.
