Just got a call from Michael Phillips who runs the NPA, he told me even though I am 20 years old that I can't compete in the junior section, this is the reason:

12. Competitors in the Under 18’s and Under 21’s must be under their respective ages on the day of the Britain Finals.

I was only told I can't compete with the juniors 2 days before i am due to be on stage. He apolosogised that i cant compete with the juniors and was very nice about it.
I am sitting here crying and torn to pieces becuase this junior contest has been everything to me the last few months.

Michael said i could be in the novices class if i wanted to. I said 'yes' so now i am against 8 other novices.

Will be the youngest person in my class and I will struggle. I feel like giving up! Will still do it and probably have to put a big fake smile on my face - but that's life.

sorry to hear that mate,

its always hard with the juniors when their b'days are just outside the dates of their shows.

i know a guy who competed with us (BNBF) earlier this year and he was set on doing the juniors but due to his birth date was not allowed to enter the class... so he did the novices, he ended up placing very well (2nd) in a massive lineup and was over the moon with his result.

We also decided that we are going to have a teen and an under 23's class next year which will give our younger competitors a few more years to progress before going into the weight classes. just to give them a few more options

Good luck with your show mate hope you do well in the novices!

Just do your best regardless of the class. It's your first contest so it's great experience. Good luck.

Why would you think that you could compete if you are older than the maximum age on competition date? That's usually how it works, right?

I don't believe that Michael Phillips is at fault. It is the competitor's responsibility to know and understand the rules. I don't mean to be rude and it sucks you can't compete but if the rule is bent then everyone else will be crying foul.

the contest is this Sunday which is a qualifier. I am 21 on the 16th October and the finals is on the 21st October

Nobody has said i couldn't compete until this morning which is a bit late to be informed and quite harsh. I have been dieting for a while and trained hard for this.
Doing novices is better than doing nothing.

Go for it dont worry about how you do just set a banch mark for yourself.

The BNBF has an under 23 next year so you will still be eligible for that next year.

no matter what, go and do it and enjoy the experience...learn and have a great time, it's what you've been working so hard for.

All that talk about quitting is just the lack of carbs, I'm sure of it! Go for it!
