In the past I had been doing low intensity cardio in the morning upon waking on an empty stomach. After reading some of Layne's articles I have found out that this isn't good for preserving muscle mass. That being said, I am going to begin a high intensity cardio schedule to be done on off days in place of weight training. What are some good exercises to start? Should you just stick with that one exercise each day? The first few that come to mind are: sprints, stairs, jumping rope, biking.

when I was cutting I used to do a full stadium(stairs), half sprint to the next stadium on the other side, then walk to the 1st and repeat for 30 min.

Got good results out of it.

Sorry the way I worded things, I must have been misleading.

I'm not cutting out weight training days. I'm going to do the cardio on my off days.

Airdyne bike has always worked well for my HIIT. Pretty much whatever you have, enjoy, etc. as long as you put the effort into it.

I'll just use the HIIT program with just running. When you wake up, drink some coffee, ( to get some caffine since caffine help your body use fat instead of carb for energy), and 20 or 30 min later. Just start running, pace your self for about a minute, and then run as fast as you can for 15 sec. And do this 7 or so times. So it will only take about 15 mins to do, and it is a great way to lose fat.
PS. It is not as easy as it sound
