Well my offseason has been going great. I’m getting stronger, bigger, and my bodyfat is staying in check. I think this offseason has been one of my most productive thus far. Unfortunately I’ve had some shoulder & lower back pain these past few weeks that has persisted. Even though I’m in the midst of gaining a lot of strength & setting quite a few personal records for myself along the way (squatting 315 X 20, 405 X 8, and deadlifting 535 for 2 sets of 5) I do not want to push myself into a long term injury. So for the next two weeks i’m scaling back my training. I will be doing the same sets & rep scheme but I will reduce weights to 65% of my normal. Hopefully that will be enough to allow my body to recover and hit it hard again.

I'm nursing a painful rotator cuff as well and it has been inhibiting my workouts. It seems you are working through your injuries rather than staying out of the gym altogether. Should I do this as well, with less weight of course?

depends upon how long you've had the injury & how bad it is... I have caught it very early and so my prognosis is good if I just back off the weights a bit.

This vid is of me on the cybex hack squat, at the end of the video I say "Doug, Kurt, I'm comin' for you" it's an inside joke to my buddies Kurt Weidner & Doug Miller who are both natural pros i'll be competing against when I start doing pro shows so I guess I'm starting the banter lol. Just wanted to say I really appreciate you making/posting these videos...it really sheds light on how you're supposed to workout; with intensity, good form, and focus. Layne for President 2012.

We will have to wait until the 2020 election which is the closest election after Layne turns 35 (min age to be President).
