ive heard if the everything is in order (diet, cardio, ect) you can still cut up fairly well on around 14 reps

Reps doesnt have anything to do with number of reps. It has to do with diet. You still want to keep your reps low and weight high.

From what I understand the reasoning for low weight high reps is because of the lack of strength to hit heavy weight while cutting. This allows you to keep moving weight while not having the same energy levels

I could be completely off but hey! Internet for teh win!!!!!

no way, high reps to get cut is one of the biggest myths out there. Muscle can do 2 things... get bigger or get smaller... it does not get more 'cut'. Being lean is what gives the appearance of having 'cuts' and that is PURELY the result of reducing bodyfat. High reps are only going to accelerate strength losses on a diet. Lift heavy, I do not change anything about my routine when going into a show... what builds muscle best... will maintain muscle best.

I been on a contest prep diet for about 7 weeks now....i still lift in the low to mid rep ranges... i have always like to use high and low reps to stimulate both fast twitch and slow twitch fibers....the one thing that i have changed however is i do more cable work...... and i do not deadlift every week like i did in the off season...everything else has remained the same grant it i cant put up the same amount of weight as i could when i was 15 pounds heavier, but i still keep the rep range low most of the time
