Traffic was by far the real "best picture" of 2000 and should have won the oscar hands down over Gladiator. Seriously, what aspect of Gladiator is better? Ensemble Acting? Directing? The Screenplay? None of them are.

I'm sure there's some people here that like Gladiator simply because it's "kickass" or pumps them up but seriously, it's not even on the same level as Traffic when it comes to a complete film.

Oh, in other news, I just bought Wall Street

Traffic was a top film. The only film where Catherine Zeta Jones can actually act.

You see I love the game. And I think Brotherhood of the Wolf was really good so I knew I liked the director, and the trailer showed me his enthusiasm for the project and that they had caught the look, style , story and even the sound from the game spot on - but the reviews I've seen thus far are less than inspiring. I'm still gonna see it, I hope they haven't (and I don't think they have) made a "Hollywood" happy ending where everrything is explained. That's one of the reasons I loved the game it's ambiguous and not all neatly wrapped up at the end.

Ok so I saw Silent Hill last night. I'm a big fan of the game. Now after I'd just finished watching it I was actually a little disappointed, but couldn't work out why.
It was utterly faithful to the game (apart from the sex of the main protagonist): the sets were identical, the characters and dialogue were too, the monsters ditto. They even used the same incidental music and soundtrack. The story arc was the same, it didn't have a "hollywood" ending, and everything was as it should be, but I realised that it just wasn't scary really. There was a constant sense of unease, but I guess when you play a game you become immersed in it and the danger is the equivalent of you actually being there which is no the same when watching a film as you don't control the actions. So really this aside, I think IU'll enjoy it more on a second watch now I know what to expect.
As far as game to film transfers go - this is by far the best one in terms of accuracy andf faithfullness to the source.

I think you hit the nail on the head not just with this but all video game inspired movies; the plots aren't as tense/immersive as when there's a punishment (ie. dying in the videogame and having to start over) and therefore the film-going experience as a whole is jeopardized slightly.

Oh, and I watched The Constant Gardener again today...fucking awesome, easily the most underrated/unappreciated great film of 2005.

^Constant Gardner - I don't think it's underated at all, I think anyone that's seen it says it is an excellent film. I think under promoted and under seen is the unfotunate predicament it found itself in. Sort of slipped under the radar. I haven't seen it yet myself, but I've heard only good things about it so will do.

You're right, I meant more along the lines that it was under the radar too much. I mean I hate to bring up the Oscars (especialy this years ) but the fact that Ralph Fiennes wasn't nominated for Best Actor, Fernando Meirelles wasn't nominated for Best Director, and the movie itself wasn't nominated for Best Cinematography is a crime.

Then again, I think the Empire awards might be worse; they only nominated The Constant Gardener for Best Thriller and they called King Kong Best Picture...what is wrong with you people?
