-Capote
-The Squid & The Whale
-Good Night, and Good Luck
-History of Violence

I'm also getting:
-Sin City
-Cinderella Man
-Groundhog Day

Can't wait!

My theater picked up Crash, so I went to see it on the big screen. I'd seen it twice on dvd before tonight. It's even more shallow when enlarged. So much time had passed since my last viewing and the hatchet was buried; I honestly regret updating my more positive first impression.

I found a great quote in Annie Proulx's address to the oscars. Ouch!

Hey littertrove, i caught that Proulx quote too and had a bit of a chuckle. I like the way the supporters of BBM have been so unabashed in their condemnation of the academy, it is nice to see those directly involved with the film saying what they really think rather than feigning humility.

My current DVD wants for the next few weeks is:

Howl's Moving Castle (jap animation by director of Spirited Away)
Kiss kiss, bang bang
Masters of Horror Vol 1
The Constant Gardner
A History of Violence
Harry Potter (for the missus)
Transporter 2 (don't mock - I liked the first one!)
Saw II
King Kong

That's for the next 4 weeks anyway. Not that I can afford any of them...

I'm not a big fan of the genre but a friend of mine pretty much sees exclusivey horror films so although he doesn't look at things nearly as critically as I do, he can give a feel on whether horror films are worth seeing for fans of this type of movie.

He basically said, in a similar way to Hostel, the movie features violence for the sake of violence and the creators are basically trying to get away with as much as they can; including an onscreen rape. I'm not really a fan of this whole "pushing the envelope" style of horror and gore over making something fairly psychologically taught but if you're in a gore and senseless blood-letting kinda mood I'd suggest "paying for a ticket and seeing it at the theaters"

I looked it up. Just tell me it's good enough to own and I'll buy it right away. The synopsis I read got me pretty excited.

Since I acquired Oldboy and Mysterious Skin last year, my dvd collection has taken a turn towards the more extreme side of film-making. Trouble is, it's hard to find something quality and I can't afford to make fruitless purchases unless I hit up the pre-viewed section.
