Oh I see! So that low budget film that no self-respecting director or producer would urinate on, called " I've got a **** that stinks of cabbage" was infact based on your genitalia? And I thought people were just taking the piss!!

God knows! I think he was making some aside to my videoing myself as my penis fell off and it stank of cabbage. I have never made such a video.

Someone else was filming at the time and I got no royalties from it! It's going to court.

I don't know how many of you guys saw Walk the Line when it was in theaters, I did twice and personally loved it. I've always been a fan of Johnny Cash and as a young guy felt like I was looking into a time portal because I never really got to see the man live. The DVD came out today, I picked it up around 1am at a 24 hour Walmart and watched it with my roommates. For fans of the movie, I highly recommend picking it up on DVD. Not only is it a great movie but the digital transfer is absolutely amazing (read: it looks great on DVD, similar quality to Road to Perdition if you've had the priveledge of seeing that on DVD). Also, the sound quality is as good as expected. Overall it's the best DVD I've purchased so far in 2006, just slightly ahead of The Constant Gardener...I suggest checking them both out

Yeah, the trailer and everything looked interesting but after it got luke-warm reviews I opted not to see it because believe it or not this year was much better for movies than it seemed. Especially towards the end of the year. I think it just came out on DVD today as well along with Pride and Prejudice (not my usual type of movie but I like to give almost anything that gets good reviews a shot and keep an open mind). I'll probably end up renting Weatherman first because the first few months of the year are notorious for being slow and I'll need something to fill the void until things like Syriana, The Squid and the Whale, Match Point, Capote, and Goodnight and Goodluck come out on DVD...then it's frivolous purchasing time!

I'll probably give The Weatherman a shot this week sometime though because I've already seen everything worthwhile out in theaters, even for if it's for nothing more than Nicholas Cage (although I doubt he'll top his performance in either Leaving Las Vegas or Adaptation...but still worth a try.)

^^Awesome our own resident film critic!
I finally got round to watching the alternative Exorcist prequel - and they really had completely reshot it with Renny Hariln including new actors and actresses and a different narrative.

Both of them were **** though.

HAHA honestly the way you started this post I thought you were going to praise it but the payoff at the end was great. Unlike, well, the Exocists Prequels! Thank God!

And yes, I'm known amongst my friends as a film critic so I'll keep you guys updated on how I feel about things. And this year for a change I'm going to take a step out of my pretentious, snobby shell and even see bad movies just so I can see as many as possible this year Should be interesting...

Hey I've seen plenty of bad films if you want some recommendations :)! I own too many as it is! :)

God I love DVD! My main weakness in life is DVD buying!

Yeah, I'm a DVD guy too, although I'm extremely picky when it comes to buying them. When a film makes it into my collection, my friends usually ask to borrow it because they figure it's good. Every year I buy my top 10 (or possibly more) so that can add up money-wise, especially to a poor college student like me. Good thing I don't have any other bad spending habits.

Manmy wife hates me for my DVD buying. It's pretty obsessive. To me if it's worth watching - even once I'll buy it! I buy about 300 or so a year, but I'm being good and cutting down! Can't afford to anymore!!!

300 a year?! wow man...I probably will buy anywhere from 10-15 a year and get another 5 or so as Christmas/Birthday presents so I have a pretty respectable collection which I know won't stop growing. I've got a sneaking suspicion that my upcoming birthday (21st) will bring me a completely different type of presents though

Since I'm going to be the self-proclaimed resident film snob here, I thought I'd share with you my picks for major categories in the upcoming Academy Awards on March 5th. I will include who I think will win the award and who I feel is actually the most deserving out of the nominees...my predicted winners will be indicated in bold and who I think will win will have a star next to their name:

BEST PICTURE
Brokeback Mountain *
Capote
Crash (Should not even be nominated)
Good Night, and Good Luck.
Munich (No way in hell should this be nominated)
-Seriously, where's Walk the Line?!?!?!

BEST ACTOR
Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote
Terrence Howard for Hustle & Flow
Heath Ledger for Brokeback Mountain
Joaquin Phoenix for Walk the Line * (Overlooked because of Jaime Foxx in Ray last year)
David Strathairn for Good Night, and Good Luck.

BEST ACTRESS
Judi Dench for Mrs. Henderson Presents
Felicity Huffman for Transamerica
Keira Knightley for Pride & Prejudice
Charlize Theron for North Country
Reese Witherspoon for Walk the Line * (Easily)

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
George Clooney for Syriana (Clooney doesn't have an Oscar and is nominated for too many categories to be shutout this year)
Matt Dillon for Crash (Should not be nominated)
Paul Giamatti for Cinderella Man *
Jake Gyllenhaal for Brokeback Mountain
William Hurt for A History of Violence

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Amy Adams for Junebug
Catherine Keener for Capote *
Frances McDormand for North Country
Rachel Weisz for The Constant Gardener
Michelle Williams for Brokeback Mountain (Really the only person besides Weisz that may win)

BEST DIRECTOR
George Clooney for Good Night, and Good Luck.
Paul Haggis for Crash (Should not be nominated)
Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain *
Bennett Miller for Capote
Steven Spielberg for Munich (REALLY should not be nominated)
-Where the hell is Fernando Meirelles for The Constant Gardener or Woody Allen for Match Point or James Mangold for Walk the Line?! Mindblowing...

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Crash - Paul Haggis, Robert Moresco (Haggis is winning purely for his Million Dollar Baby script last year)
Good Night, and Good Luck. - George Clooney, Grant Heslov
Match Point - Woody Allen
The Squid and the Whale - Noah Baumbach
Syriana - Stephen Gaghan * (Amazing)

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Brokeback Mountain - Larry McMurtry, Diana Ossana
Capote - Dan Futterman
The Constant Gardener - Jeffrey Caine * (Probably the best screenplay of the year)
A History of Violence - Josh Olson
Munich (2005) - Tony Kushner, Eric Roth (Yet another undeserved nomination...Kushner's getting recognition for his screenplay for the Mini-Series "Angels in America")

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Batman Begins
Brokeback Mountain
Good Night, and Good Luck. *
Memoirs of a Geisha
The New World
-The fact that The Constant Gardener was not even nominated makes this entire category a joke this year

BEST ANIMATED FILM
Corpse Bride
Hauru no ugoku shiro
Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
*

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
Bestia nel cuore, La
Joyeux Noël
Paradise Now *
Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage
Tsotsi

-If Paradise Now doesn't win, it's because it's about suicide bombing and academy doesn't have the balls to award that subject

BEST DOCUMENTARY
Darwin's Nightmare
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
Marche de l'empereur, La (March of the Penguins)
Murderball *
Street Fight

Okay, those are who I think will and should bring home Oscars this year. I know most of you guys probably could care less but film is something I'm very passionate about so I thought I'd share my thoughts with you guys. Honestly, I'd be happiest if I've picked correctly but even happier if the ones I feel should win actually do.

His performance is suprisingly good, however I think a lot of people who are rooting for him to win the oscar are waisting their breath. His only chance of winning a best supporting actor oscar was lost when Jarhead, which was billed as possibly the best movie of the year on paper, flopped.

Okay. Oscar time.

I haven't been this out of the loop in three years. I've given up theater attendance, my blockbuster movie pass, and haven't been hanging with my semi-cinebuff friends. I've got zilch to contribute, but I'm glad you're posting here, Lineski.

Hopefully I'll be following things again soon. I have a feeling I'm about to become a very good customer of our dollar theater, not that they'll care. It's a ****ing sweatshop run by tired-eyed minorities who jump at the sound of a popping kernel.

I saw P&P, Capote, Walk the Line, and Brokeback most recently. Props all around, especially for Pride and Prejudice -- didn't expect that level of excellence, and Matthew MacFadyen is worthy of an Excellent Actor nomination. His Mr. Darcy is just fantastic. I felt that every time he entered a scene he looked to be in different stages of personal anguish, spot on down to the redness in his eyes. There's also the suitor who's a minister, the short, boring chap. He's worth admission. Excellent Supporting Actor worthy? Special props for Brokeback. My ignorant choice and sincere hope for Excellent Picture.

I'll be watching this year. I'm always excited about what it can do for a nominee's career (2006 will be a big year for Clive Owen), but I usually don't watch the ceremony - obvious reasons. John Stewart has me tuning in. Also, I'm a little curious about the potential exposure for Brokeback, spotlighted as such an obvious point of celebrity conversation and *crosses fingers* hopefully a winning night.

^ ^Glad to see another cinema-fan here! I'm looking forward to the Oscars too...there's actually a couple websites that allow you to place bets on them, but I didn't know until it was too late and the odds aren't nearly as good now. Next year I plan on cleaning up big time betting on the Oscars! I'm pretty confident in my picks this year but a few are up in the air such as supporting actor and cinematography. My film-snob friend from home (who I run a movie blog with aka the link in my sig) used to bet on the Oscars just between us; now that we found out we can do it online we're so excited for next year!

I'll probably be renting P&P soon so I'll let you know what I think. The best supporting actor category is usually the hardest to choose nominees for and the hardest to predict the winner of. Generally it's so jammed-packed full of talent (although I'd really like to see Matt Damon in Syriana instead of Matt Dillon in Crash!) but alas he just got completley overlooked for Clooney this year. Clooney just did too much to be ignored (he acted, directed, and produced movies this year) and Dillon was nominated because Crash's ensemble cast got too much attention so someone had to be nominated for it.

Alright, that's enough for now, I'll definately be posting shortly after the Oscars Ceremony!

I'm also a film buff, Lineski. Any directors or films you are particularly fond of? I am especially curious about that pretentious, snobby shell. :P
