I saw a lot of hardcore bands listed, but none of the old school stuff. I may have missed it as I went from page 1 to ppg 3-4; if so, my bad. Here's some original New York Hardcore for ya;

Sheer Terror
Agnostic Front
Madball
Sick Of It All
The Cro-Mags
Bad Brains (even though they're originally from D.C.)

If you like hardcore, but you don't know any of them, look 'em up. Give the old stuff a listen.

Do you feel that bands like that had an influence on hardcore bands like Emmure which tend to have a more "gangster" feel to them?

I've never heard of Emmure, I'll look 'em up. But if you're talking about the thugcore/bullycore style, I would definitly say yes, especially in the case of Sheer Terror, though they don't really have true breakdowns in their songs, you can definitly trace thugcore vocals to Paul Bearer's style. Also Freddy Madball's vocals as he got older, along with Madball's drop tuning and breakdowns.

Not so much for Bad Brains, those dudes where just coming from a whole different planet with their music!

I think they did influence them alot, they all stay true to their sound unlike alot of other genre's. You can definitely feel the relationship though

Alright, cool. I was just curious if they had the same roots, since the genres are very similar. I'm glad to see somebody else out there appreciates the breakdown.

Haven't had the chance to see them live, but I hear they put on an awesome show. I'm stuck on Hexagram, Lifter, Nosebleed and My Own Summer right now, mad awesome songs! :)

Funny, some of the old hardcore "purists" roll their eyes when a HXC band gets to the breakdown, but I love it! That's when the everyone in the pit goes apeshi.t and really spread the love! To me, it's a good show if you've bled or shed blood. But I'm getting a little old for that I think

I totally agree, man. It sucks being really tall in a pit. I always get hit in the throat and the balls. If you're into these bands, I'm seeing August Burns Red, Texas in July, This or the Apocalypse, and I Am History on December 29th. THAT will be a few hours of nothing but the best breakdowns on earth. Hell yes.

I don't dig the black metal style snakey vocals, but the dude with the cookie monster voice rocks! And their riffing, makes me want to tear down the walls! I don't listen to music while I lift, don't like having anything in my ears while I concentrate. Before I go into the gym I blast Damage Inc. and Of Wolf and Man by Metallica in my car. Then I tune out whatevers playing on the gyms playlist :o)
